As a student-fan, I would not have sat in upper-level seats. That would have been an insult. The whole point of being at the game was cheering on my Patriots close to the action. We didn't come to games to SIT anywhere.

Drawing the bleachers back for a couple of games per season during winter break is fine. Student participation is minimal during this time—not much lost. It cannot, however, become a regular thing if one is attempting to nurture students into becoming better fans of the game. Yes, progress is slow on that front, but cutting off the bleachers to students permanently??? That would kill off student participation faster than anything.
Take the chairs out of the student section. Direct students to the upper section if they want to sit. Start doing little things to make sitting and being disengaged in cheering less comfortable.

The first game with students back would be a great time to have the Stand Up 2 Cancer (or enter other cause here). If the student section could go 40 minutes of game action without sitting, I’d pledge money.

I like that idea. Give them a social incentive to stand. It's a start if nothing else and potentially raise money for a worthy cause.

My understanding of the student section cut out is it was a one time thing that they will look to do of more next year (potentially a higher level package) for the 4-5 games at the end of the non-con that students are usually on vacation for.

It will be back to normal for Saturday against Rhody.

There are a million empty seats in the arena and it looks embarrassing.

Rip out the bleachers on one side and make it a standing, party section. Put the band in the upper level so it actually fills seats and concentrates the noise. That’s how you create an intimidating student section instead of whatever this is now.

And for the students who need a seat, they can go sit across the arena and clap politely like good little boys and girls.

Bring back the fold down risers! Heck, fans back in the day could sit close enough to hand players their water.
Both of us!

I've only been to one women's game, but the group of students at half court down low brought excitement. Though I think they were from a high school.

They are not allowed to sit at Duke.
Virginia Tech did a good job of being on their feet when not in a timeout.
Not allowed!?!? At the Duke game last year, as I was looking around, I don't think the low section for students HAD seats let alone being allowed to sit.

Section 17 is just bleachers for standing. I saw security make people stand that sat down at halftime. Probably for safety to not get crushed if the group collapsed.
