Former Baseball Player Called up to Big Leagues

Congrats to Justin Bour for getting the call up to the Miami Marlins! I enjoyed watching him play at Mason. He got the call last night.

The Marlins are expected to select the contract of first baseman Justin Bour from New Orleans. Picked in the Triple-A phase of the 2013 Rule 5 Draft from the Cubs' Double-A roster, Bour has lit up the Pacific Coast League, hitting .330 with nine homers, 36 RBI and a .969 on-base plus slugging percentage.

A product of George Mason, the left-handed hitting Bour has been especially tough on right-handed pitching, slashing .354/.444/.592 in 130 at-bats. He's also held his own against lefties (.288/.333/.507).

Good stuff. If this years team had the pop the Bour brothers provided we would have been tough to beat. Hope he is able to stick around in the majors.

A guy like Bour would have a much better chance of sticking if he played for an AL team. Although it's still likely he could make it as a first baseman in the NL, the possibility for playing time would obviously increase substantially if he could also DH.
