At this point, getting anything new is exciting. However, one has to wonder if wasnt really needed, could.we have bought a few athletes. Soccer, baseball or bball.

I like Mason trying the new marketing strategy, “NOVA’s Team.” Let Mason own the Northern Virginia turf.

I know you’re joking, and I’m not trying to get political, but when there was pressure to rename George Mason, my thought was: if you’re going to change it, don’t name it after another person whose legacy will inevitably be debated. Just call it Northern Virginia University and leave no doubt.

I gave this way too much thought, honestly . I agree that around here, some people might initially confuse it with NOVA Community College, but if the goal is to build a national brand, I don’t think that matters much. Outside of Northern Virginia, most people probably aren’t familiar with the community college anyway.

I was also open to Virginia Metropolitan University, but I still think Northern Virginia University sounds stronger, more established, and more credible. Plus, it’s not like other states don’t have schools with very similar naming structures. there’s UNC Chapel Hill, UNC Charlotte, UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington, and they all operate under the same broader system while still maintaining distinct identities.

Luckily, the noise about changing the name seems to have died down. I’ve wasted way too much energy thinking about this as it is lol.
