Facilities and Arena discussion

I don’t think the Johnson center spot is a big enough footprint to have both a student union and a 7,500+ seat arena. And are we going to build that AND keep EBA around as a convocation/event center? Is that what everyone thinks we should do?

Not only that, but sucking an arena deeper into campus becomes a logistical and traffic super-nightmare.

Instead of building a smaller building, build a bigger program so you fill the seats!

Don't ask me how.

Has Mason broken ground on the new basketball practice facility yet?

Can’t keep track of how many times the start and completion dates have gotten pushed back. Original press release had an opening date of early 2027 lol.
Shovels were supposed to be in the ground this summer but maybe they meant the summer of 2045

EBA is like 400 yards away from the JC as the bird flies. Its distance from campus isn’t what is keeping students away.

Solution looking for a problem.
And only around 15% of students live on campus. For everyone else being closer to parking is better than being in the middle of campus with nowhere close to park.

The campus is pretty compact as far as large universities go.

But we shouldn’t compare our campus to vcu’s anyway. They are right in the middle of the city, Mason is kind of its own universe. I’ve only been to vcu’s campus a couple of times but it reminds me more of Drexel (right in the middle of Philly) than ours.

Lmao we aren’t getting a reduced capacity arena. EBA is the only arena in NoVa and the commencement venue for a school of 40k, they’re not going to meaningfully reduce capacity. And I’m not sure if anyone’s noticed, but we don’t have the cash to break ground of a f**king training facility, there’s no way we’re building a second arena and maintaining them both. The only semi-realistic option we have is getting funds from the state for a new EBA or at least for a massive overhaul of the existing building (although I doubt there’s a chance to make a renovation even remotely cost competitive with a new build at this point).

Well, then be satisfied with an NIT ceiling. The fans have to pay in order for Mason to play for national relevance or settle for annual systemic roster and coaching turnover and middle of the A10 finishes.
For all the player who like to comment, I have supported the program for over 10 years and paid more than just my patriot club seat contribution each year. Changing he season ticket holder experience and cost with this roll out just turns people away. You want to be relevant then win…..

For the new merch store they are doing this upcoming season, Mason fans at both GMU men's and women's games should be able to buy jerseys in colors like Green, Gold, White, and Black in both adult and kids sizes

Also, fans should be able to buy t-shirt jerseys in both adult and kids sizes as well.

Fans should be able to personalize their jersey with their own last name after buying it

I think the fanbase would like this. Hopefully the Mason Athletics department sees this and considers this.
