GMU has killed my enthusiasm. The Beer Garden is a joke. The prices are outrageous. The crowd, students included was a joke. But, it's only an exhibition!!!!! That's my whole point, if we had fans that actually gave a sh&t today wouldn't have been what is was. Ran into 7 couples who used to be Gold Room members and no longer are. I spent $14 for a beer I had NO interest in because it was the only option. No halftime option other that to stand in line at concessions. Congrats Mason! This will be my last year attending games. You killed me smalls.

As far as the beer garden goes, is this what you expected? — Der Ochsenbraterei at Munich's Oktoberfest? (Mmmmmmmm... Spaten, kraut, and brats... and blonde Beer Wenches!)

I certainly agree that $1 per ounce of beer is absurd. I also agree that it is IMPERATIVE to better support and properly reward the bread 'n' butter *blue-collar" fans such as us. After all, we built the place and we may be trending toward outright revolt.

All else I can say is that if beer and revelry pre-game is your style then set your reservation at each and every tailgate opportunity. Halftime? Well... you're on your on your own.

I was impressed how well the team seemed to gel with each other. The plays look more exciting then last year... I felt last year there were many times it felt like they passed the ball around just to pass it around without a plan to score. Weak defense, but good to see times players could power to the hoop.
The student section was empty. No one can offer some free pizza or some points system to encourage people to come out? I'm feeling old I did not get what most of the cheerleaders/dancers were wearing as Halloween costumes. I thought energy was ok considering the score and competition level.
I was expecting more in the kids section, like those basketball hoops out on the concourse last year for bigger kids. Maybe that will come. I'm not one that feels like I need to get a beer so I'm not interested at those prices. May need to wait until next week to make a judgement on it.

Maybe they will improve the Kids area and beer selection for the first real game of the season? This was just an exhibition game.

Improve the beer prices. They are outrageous. I can feed and quench myself for two days—breakfast, lunch and dinner, and not skimp on quality—for the price of one beer at EBA's beer garden.

Why not charge hybrid prices? Make an exclusive beer garden (a la Gold Room style), charge.a relatively low "membership" fee, and sell tapped-keg beers at $4 for a 12 oz. cup. Offer popcorn at pennies per ton. Work it right and the university would still be likely to run over the break-even point.

I liked what I saw from the team, everyone seemed hungry like they're all playing for their minutes including the freshmen. I think we all expected that Pendergrass was gonna make an impact, but even Miller and Barret had their moments. Presley seems like he's playing with the confidence he arrived with. Hopefully he can keep that up. And our starting 5 is looking tough. EOE looks like he could take over the game by himself and seemed like he wanted to on a couple occasions driving the ball coast-to-coast. It will be interesting to see how all of this translates to D1 competition, but a good exhibition showing nonetheless.

As for the hospitality stuff. I really like that Commonwealth has taken over the beer garden. It's a great partnership. At $16 a beer I'm tempted to just steal the damn beer though, that's just insulting. Those prices need to be cut in half, $10 max. Get someone in the analytics program to run some simulations on pricing, because that ain't it.

The new sideline area looks nice, but totally out of place. It looks like we just gave up on trying to fill the lower bowl and just said "you know what, let em just casually sip their beer in front of the camera crew that's the best we can do." That's low energy BS. That type of bar should be at the top of section 115 or something so corporations can have team outings up there and socialize, but be out of the way of the cameras.
