Exhibition #1: GMU at Villanova on Saturday, October 17, at 1:00 PM.

What happened for Jones to get a T?
There was some frustration from the team in general that felt like Villanova was getting away with extra contact on rebounds. Jones came down with the ball, but was slapped on the arm again as he got it.

He made his displeasure known to the ref and was T’d up. I get the frustration, but can’t do that (especially since the ‘Nova lead was only 8 at that point and the tech was absolutely the catalyst for Tyler Perkins to go on a personal 10-0 run to shut the door on us)

I know Tony wasn’t happy about it, but I don’t think it’s a bad thing to have guys with some edge to their game. One reason Team 59 was so successful is they weren’t afraid to mix it up and never backed down from anyone — obviously barking at the ref and getting a T is less than ideal in the moment but I’ll take that over a choir boy mentality any day.

I always like when guys play like Tony did on the court. Its not like he didn't get his share of technical fouls too, lol.

Would rather this happen now than in a critical moment in a critical game.

Also I’ll gladly take 9 points on 4-5 shooting (1-1 on 3s), 8 rebounds and 3 blocks in 19 minutes of playing time.

Jones is who I thought we were getting in Adebayo. A force on both ends at the 4 spot.

I couldn’t quite tell in the post-exhibition interview if Skinn was talking about Jones when he said “help us at both positions,” (it was either him or Adair but pretty sure it was Jones), but assuming we might see Jones playing some 5 this year too.

Definitely expect to see lineups with Jones at the 5 and EOE at the 4 against smaller teams. That would allow Tony to play Okojie, BOC and Valentine together. Really like that group on both ends, especially because Makhai rebounds like a forward.

Jones is going to have a very quiet 12/7 season and I have a feeling we are all going to be very mad when he’s snubbed from an All A-10 third team spot for some volume scoring guard for the 9th or 10th place team

Kevin Willard talks about Tony Skinn:

“Tony was one of my best assistants I’ve ever had because he coaches the way he played. A lot of coaches don’t do it. He reminds me of Shaheen, who coaches the way he played. Tony was always an excellent recruiter. He was always an excellent guy in practice. I watch all of his games. He’s become a really good X and O guy, and his teams play the way that he played. I think that’s why he’s so good.”

Considering they were down four players, including three who should see significant minutes, I don’t think it’s nearly as bad as the score looks. They were arguably missing their two best defenders and two leading scorers. I think they’ll be just fine. Actually, I was pretty encouraged by where the score stood with eight minutes left.

At guard look a lot deeper than last year, which ended up being a huge problem. A10 still a guard league so looking forward to seeing everyone on the court!
Who is they? Its "WE" mofo!
