You mean getting blown out?

The URI loss stings less now that they also beat SLU at home. Hunger is having his way with vcu’s frontcourt just like he did us (he’s got 20 with 11:00 still to play). Duquesne is a team that can win or lose against anyone.

The Richmond debacle remains the one game that is a head scratcher, like epic levels of failure in that game.

After being up by as much as 15 points over SLU. vcu now down by 16 with 3:30 left in the game
As hot as vcu was from 3 in the first half (they had 7 different players make at least 1 three), they were 0-11 from deep in the second half. The Rams must have led for the first 30 minutes with SLU going on a 24-4 run over a 6 min span to take charge.

No one mentioning the vcu and st.louis end of game "brawl"? Both BS moves on vcu players. 1. seconds running down and the vcu guard tries to steal/knock the ball out of the St. Louis player who is just dribbling it out. 2. Then Barry Evans comes crashing in and pushes a St. Lous player to the ground.... dude goes flying as it looks like it was in the back and the guy wasn't looking - huge pussy move.

Didn’t this happen last year too but involving parents of players in the stands when these two teams played?

Although vcu actions were the most egregious, SLU wasn't entirely blameless. #1 was dribbling the game out and gave his defender a mild shove. And when the vcu guard stole the ball, Avila shoved him out of bounds. Dr. G, who was seated right in front of the play, said on tv that the players had been trash-talking before the shoving started.

PS. I mentioned the "brawl" on another thread (post #176....Dayton thread) when the discussion moved to the vcu-SLU game).

Mason's NET 99 this morning...99!!...The Patriots were 65 2 weeks ago.

how does a collapse like this happen ??!!!

Maybe TS should have platooned Mincy and Long at the 1 and Hill and Troutman at the 2???

Not wear out 2 of your PG's at 35+ minutes per game.

I can't get over playing your best guard with a sprained hand for 6 straight games..Skinn in the presser says "Mincy got a break, he only played 27 minutes.."...27 minutes..that is still starter minutes...Dayton was blowing Mason out...it didn't change anything except run the risk of affecting his shooting hand injury again..

At the risk of being called out..but that was the worst decision of the season.

Oh absolutely, the NET dropped 34 spots because Mincy played 27 minutes while hurt. That’s clearly the butterfly effect that tanked the entire résumé. But hey, if platooning guards guaranteed a 65 NET, everyone would do it.

My apologies.

My thoughts were garbled with emotions when I saw that 99 NET this morning and expressed an incoherent mush in that 1st post

Let me try again.

Several things:

1. Mincy's been leading the A10 in mpg all season(36.8 at one point) along with Long. I think he has worn down as the season progressed.

2. Furthermore, the injury has not been able to heal properly because Tony insisted on maintaining his PT at same level with the injuried hand. This last Dayton game; TS reduced it 27 which is still starter minutes with a bad hand.

The bottom line is it may have been better to platoon Mincy and Troutman and Long with as your two back courts over the course of the season. Everyone would have stayed fresh and Troutman would not be overmatched at the four position.

Play Allensbach with Adebayo and Kanga with Ellington and go with a 2 big lineup. Platooning Presley and Sivka at the 3. Booker gets situational minutes between the 2 and 3 positions.

All good - I'm messing around, thus the sarcastic font.

That said, we really dont' know if Tony insisted on Kory playing, Kory insisted on playing, or some combination. We're not in practice or meetings to determine on that. We can all express our opinions (should he play , not play, play less) but honestly its up to the staff. The fact that Mincy would want to play and not "save himself", is a really good quality. He very easily could have sat considering the opportunities he might have to transfer.

Mincy has been playing more off the ball anyway, with Hill and Long taking the point guard duties as needed. I don't think it would have mattered because Tony was rolling with the performers all year, and Mincy was a heck of a performer and driving our performance.

Its February, and nobody is fresh at this point. Middle of conference play and when things start to matter more and more. Hopefully after the week off, everyone can reset and start playing better basketball again before the season slips away more and more. It sucks that once again Mason is in what I call the "dead zone" NET of 75-125, but not much we can do about it.
