basketball star, tons of marijuana and a reputation destroyed

The charge typically carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, but if Miskiri tells prosecutors who else was involved in the crimes and details his own role — as he agreed to do — he is likely to receive a far shorter term.

What a very sad day for Jason and his family and friends. The quote above makes me think of Carlos Yates who, after turning state's evidence in a drug distribution case downtown, was gunned down presumably by those he identified. I wish Jason all the best moving forward.

Not like Miskiri was Walter White, getting rich by peddling poison and getting people hooked.

RIP, Walter.

BFD.

Pot should be legal anyhow.

Not like Miskiri was Walter White, getting rich by peddling poison and getting people hooked.

While your second sentence is a valid point of view that is defensible, the reality is it's not legal and Miskiri knew this. He was willfully committing a felony and doing so not because he wanted to fight against an unjust law or promote civil rights. This isn't Samuel Wilbert Tucker organizing a sit-in to right a great wrong. This is someone who sold drugs illegally and laundered the proceeds to make enough profit to finance his other business ventures.

As for not getting anyone hooked, there's not really any way to know that. Marijuana use can cause changes in the brain that can create an addiction. There's also no way of knowing who was ultimately using his drugs, consenting adults or did it get filtered down to minors whose brains were still developing. Even in Colorado the legal age is 21.

I imagine they would be much more understanding if only he had paid taxes on the revenue (I am not joking)...that's what got Capone.

Kinda difficult to pay taxes on revenue from a drug ring while offering a legal explanation for where said revenue came from.

Even with our incompetent government, I'm pretty sure somebody at the IRS might've raised an eyebrow if Miskiri declared that his restaurant had $12 million in annual profits.

He didn't file anything. Had he done so, things might be a little different.
