Average Home Attendance

Attendance will grow---

1) When the program becomes a winner again.
2) Students get more interested.

But even then, it's not going to be near capacity crowds.

The idea of getting families and the general public interested, especially on a Mon thru Thur night for a non marquee game----forget it. My son usually had 4 nights of commitments during the school week---scouts, his own team practices, etc etc. And that was in elementary--forget high school. If we had been local Dad would been attending alone.

Even here locally, the vaunted NH Wildcats, coming off their fresh win over Rhode Island, only average 2300 on a 6500 capacity. And that is mostly students and alumni vs random public based on co worker reports.

But they do average 5K+ for hockey.........

Bros relax for for a little bit the OOC home schedule was dog shit with the only VA school Bridgewater

We are now letting in everybody to the school with zero standards I predict the attendance will skyrocket to like 14k a game soon

People will watch the games on a big 80 inch screen provided by mason in K lot because of sell outs
Welcome back Chris Jollay!

"Men’s college basketball has an attendance problem.

Ten years ago, an average of 5,000 fans attended each game in Division I across the country — home games, not counting neutral-site events and the NCAA Tournament.

That number has dropped consistently for the last 10 years (and more). The 2021-22 campaign saw an average of only 4,204 fans attend each Division I home game in person.

Looking at some teams’ schedules, though, might reveal men’s college basketball actually has a scheduling problem.

Here in the Beehive State, the University of Utah has built a nonconference schedule for the upcoming season notable only because of how thoroughly disinteresting it is. The Utes have scheduled just one of the other six Division I opponents in the state, a road game at BYU. They have two games in a multiteam event in Florida and bring TCU to Utah — but to Vivint Arena, not to the Huntsman Center.

The rest of Utah’s nonconference schedule is filled with seven home “buy” games against mid- or low-major opponents. These are one-time contests in which the home team pays the visitors to travel instead of giving them a return game at home."

"Robby Jackson, a West Jordan resident and lifelong Utah fan, said he attends about five or six Utes home games per season but would never consider buying season tickets with a nonconference schedule like this season’s. He doesn’t anticipate entering the Huntsman Center until Pac-12 Conference play begins.

He’s guessing many Utah men’s basketball fans are in the same boat."

"The COVID-19 pandemic is partially to blame for the national average attendance drop from 4,601 in 2019-20 to 4,204 last season. But that’s ultimately only a fact that supports scheduling better home games to help rejuvenate the sport."

Preferred Walk-On
4,554 fans were in attendance to watch the game against NCA&T.

58% capacity.

Official total capacity is listed at 7,860. I'm assuming that's what it is with the tarps on. I wonder if they will ever remove the tarps if there is a game that is a sellout crowd

The problem is Mason hasn’t been consistent enough in recent years to endure a deflating loss and keep attendance up. Remember that year we rolled through OOC and the place was rocking for the opener and then vcu wiped their a** with us? Attendance never recovered for the year.

4500 plus for yesterday I think is pretty good. Hopefully just the tip of iceberg.
I was surprised it was that crowded.
I believe there were $10 seats beside the band and a lot of groups were sitting there

I have seats in the section beside the visitor bench - as usually i can slide over to that section and even that section was crowded
Seemingly a large number of A&T supporters were there and i noticed a number of other people wearing clothing from other HBCUs

Agreed.. my impressions as well. At halftime, the concession lines were the longest of the season. The $10 tickets were being sold for seats in the upper reaches of all the sections, I'm pretty sure.

Cheap seats, Sat afternoon between the holidays and some publicity from WTOP (see earlier post). Lot of walk-ups (?) based on late-arriving crowd filing into my section 10 minutes into the first half.

Not wearing Mason gear, so I'm thinking a lot of first-timers with ties to NCA&T.

I’m trying to remember if they’ve done this after putting the tarps on (did they reduce capacity the year UVA came? Because that was over 9,000).

I’m sure they would if the demand was there for the tickets.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away ... In a world without the tarps, the capacity used to be listed as 10,000 at the PatDome.

Soon enough, they will have to remove the tarps. Tony Skinn is here.

Yes. But actual capacity was 9,850 (for basketball anyway. I’m sure you could fit 10k at a concert when you included the floor (even taking away the side behind the stage).

Interesting....attendance for the 6 pm women's game was listed at 5100. My guess is that the 4554 was part of the 5100 in that the ticket for the men's game was also good for the women's game and that an additional 500+ fans showed up at 6.

Yeah, there was a very good crowd for the women's game by their standards, but the actual number had to be under 2,000.
