Yeah - a player with respect for his coach would never pull something like that. Never mind looking at your cell phone, why does he have it on the bench in the first place? Ridiculous Anali, but Hewitt is to blame for stuff like this too.

Wasn't he hewitt's first signee/player move and Hewitt stubbornly refused to take him out of the starting lineup even though he sucked game after game? At least he eventually got benched while Hewitt continued to "coach." What an awful, terribly frustrating year to be a mason basketball fan.....

It wouldn't surprise me if Hewitt had eyes for more than 1 JUCO, on the assumption that Gray is gonna leave, too.
If Hewitt could land that 7-footer Shevon Thompson and the athletic SG we've been mentioned with, I'd be quite impressed.
But I'm not holding my breath. He'll probably just sign 2 more 6-6 wings.

If Vaughn Gray transfers (he deserves the opportunity to be an impact player in his final year of eligibility), I hope that his brother Virgil will still post on this board.

This is what I don't understand, and I know 99% of you guys agree. Vaughn obviously hasn't quit on the team because you see him working out, he's practicing, cheering the team on from the bench even when he knows he probably won't go in, and when he does go in he appears to try hard.
I just don't understand what Hewitt's problem is with him. He's such a wasted talent and it pisses me off. The fact that Hewitt was on the Okoloji bus for so long probably hints to the fact that he has no idea what's going on. Vaughn deserves a shot and he no doubt has the talent to help this team win games. IMO, he should see starter minutes next season. If Hewitt had used him in a sixth or seventh man role Vaughn would be more ready to gain starter minutes next season and fill a void right away.
I guess all I'm trying to say is that Hewitt is a moron.
It's well know that Hewitt is a stubborn, stubborn man. There are plenty examples of him holding on to ideas, schemes and personnel roles despite the evidence to the contrary -- starting Edwards, then Allen at the point instead of DJ once DJ came back from suspension, the Okoloji situation, the Vaughn Gray situation, the man-to-man defense situation, the non-press press situation, Johnny Williams as a center, asking J2, Jenkins, Copes and Marko to handle the ball on the perimeter situation, asking one person to break a press despite not having an experienced press-breaking PG situation, etc. etc.
If Vaughn Gray really does come back for his senior season after all of the shite he's taken from Bozo the Coach, he is absolutely the most loyal athlete I've ever seen.
Most kids nowadays aren't willing to wait three games into their freshman year to be starting and playing major minutes.
He's waited 3 freaking years. Justice dictates that he cracks the starting lineup next season and absolutely blows up, making everyone wonder why he's spent most of his collegiate career buried in Bozo's doghouse.

I desperately want to know more about the Gray situation.
Virgil, I am a fan of his, so don't take this the wrong way, but there's got to be more to it than Hewitt being a moron. What is VG doing wrong that he could correct to get more minutes?
To clarify the thought process behind my question, I'm a teacher. The vast majority of teachers I know are really, really good. But many people who know nothing but think they know what they're talking about blame teachers for everything. At the same time, teachers blame kids and parents for everything.
Being a teacher, a parent, a teacher's kid, a former businessman, and a business man's kid, I have some knowledge of both worlds. I have learned that the teachers who blame the kids and parents are right 99% of the time. But, I never blame the kids or parents. Why not? Because I can't control them. I can only control me. I don't give a crap whose fault it is, I just know it's MY job to fix it.
VG is a superior athlete and a good basketball player. He's loyal, a team player, and of good character. So, my question is, what is he actively doing to earn more play? If what he's trying didn't work, what is he trying next? If he believes he can help this team win, how is he going to make it happen?
I don't ask this in a negative way or to challenge his character. It's a genuine question out of pure fan's curiosity.

I like Gray and hate Hewitt (as a coach), so it would be easy for me to agree with you. But, again, experience tells us there's two sides to every story. And, Gray cannot fire Hewitt, make him less stubborn, or make him a better coach. I just hope he's mature enough and smart enough to make it about himself and not about Hewitt. Sadly, many (most?) people twice his age are not at that level of maturity. Many never will be.

It's cool... Honestly I was told he had great practices and all... But to not be given a shot I really have no answer... I haven't heard any negative performance reviews about practice or mental lapses... No issues off the court either... So I'm just as lost as the next person when it comes to finding a legit reason
