2026 Women's Volleyball

Happy August

Women's VB starts at the end of the month with the DC Challenge - GMU, Georgetown, Howard and Northwestern.
Last season all home matches were held at the RAC and were free entry.

I believe NCAA rules allow 2 exhibition games - but i dont see any listed on the schedule - yet.

I believe the Head Coach has elevated the program to solidly in the middle of the conference putting the team on the edge of qualifying for the Conference Tournament.

Hoping that the rise continues and this season solidly places the team in the 4 thru 7 spots.

Fantastic sport. I was lucky that my time at GMU and living in NoVA GMU's women's team was pretty solid. I think they won the CAA a few times.

Waiting impatiently for the preseason poll to come out. I want to see where they think GMU will finish.

Correction
Maryland loses in 3 sets
but commentators say they are a young team
with their incoming class ranked as #16 in the country

hopefully we catch them young and inexperienced

Oooff. Not the result I was hoping for! Figured they would have at least taken a set or 2.

Here's to a better result at 3-1 UMBC.

Patriots Complete Comeback to Top UMBC, 3-2 - George Mason University Athletics

BALTIMORE, Md. — George Mason defeated UMBC 3-2 on Friday. After dropping the first two sets, the Patriots won 25-16, 26-24 and 15-11, including a 4-0 response to

gomason.com

"The Patriots erased UMBC's 24-22 advantage by taking the final four points to win the fourth set, 26-24. Martinez-Robinson served through the finish, which included a Hunt kill and three block-assisted UMBC attack errors involving Hamilton, Brown and Gabriella Gelfound. Earlier, Booker's serve helped the Patriots turn a 12-12 tie into a 16-12 lead, with Hamilton and Brown adding kills in that stretch.

After UMBC tied the fifth set at 10-10, the Patriots answered with Thompson's kill and moved to set point behind a Brown-Gelfound block and a Martinez-Robinson ace. Hamilton finished the set with a kill from Cheney, giving the Patriots a 15-11 fifth-set win."

About 10 days until conference play starts.
I don't believe that this prediction has been updated to include OOC play.

Big gap between #3 and #4
Small gap between #4 and #5

George Mason went 10-8 in league play a year ago and returns a dynamic trio that is led by sophomore Kiera Hamilton, who was last year’s A10 Rookie of the Year as well as a first-team all-conference selection. Senior Chelsea Colter was a second-team All-Atlantic 10 pick last season, while Nia Thompson joined Hamilton on the A10’s All-Rookie Team.

Colter is lost for the season with a leg injury.
