GIVING DAY 2023
Richmond city government has stink, stank, stunk for decades. 6th Street Marketplace in the '80s through years to finally building a new ballpark for the MiLB Flying Squirrels.
Honestly, it sucks that the city of the size of Richmond doesn't have a nice arena anymore. How could city council let it go into disrepair like that?

I remember when they use to hold the Richmond Times Dispatch tournament. An MTE at X mas time where the State's Power Conference teams played the CAA and Sun Belt teams.

Ya know, maybe Mason should use EBA to hold a Mason Invitational tournament.

Think we had the US Air tournament one year, but then they had financial issues and that was that.

Sigh... we really need to become relevant again

NEWS: vcu and Santa Clara will begin a home-and-home series on November 19th at Santa Clara, according to multiple sources. Return game at vcu in 2027-28.

vcu’s non-conference looks loaded next year. Maui Invitational, at Memphis, at Santa Clara, v NC State. Who else?
They may end up adding UVA and LSU.

Can anyone name a MTE hosted by another school that is on par with us or lower?

Only one I can think of is the one in South Dakota, but that was at a neutral site, not SD State's arena. We had a pretty good lineup with that one with Washington, SD st. and Nevada.

Any MTE we host would probably bring a pretty crap lineup - any other good mid-majors are going to be trying to first get into an MTE where they get a shot at P4's (just like us). Plus the attendance at an MTE at EBA would suck.

There were several last year but yeah the lineups sucked (American, FDU, Western Illinois, Robert Morris, Lafayette, Air Force) all hosted MTEs last year.

If you’re going to host an MTE you need a media partner and a sponsor (who is willing to put up some good money to entice teams to come). I don’t know if we’d be able to get good ones for either.

I also don’t think Fairfax has the infrastructure to be a good host (I guess it would be a minimum of four teams if you do the campus games model—which is a cop out MTE to me anyway). Hotel options, bar options, dining options, parking, and traffic would all suck even if we did it during Christmas or Thanksgiving.

Yes. American University hosted it's 1st invitational last year because it could not get an MTE.

The participants: Maine, Sienna, Longwood and American.
Exactly - we could maybe host one just as an opportunity to scout their players for when they enter the portal.

Do you recall the US Airways Holiday Classic at the Patriot Center (GMU, GW, Northeastern, & Army West Point) on December 27-28, 1997?

I sure do. The West Point coach, Pat Harris was a classmate of my Dads back in the 70's at West Point. Attended that tournament as a kid and it was actually pretty entertaining.

Sources: The conference series between the American and A-10 will be limited to the South Florida-Saint Louis and Memphis-Dayton matchups only for the 2026-27 season. Other meetings will of course occur between the two leagues, but not as part of the structured series.

Sources—The A-10 and American have agreed to a multi-year inter-conference series that will aim to up the non-con profiles of notable programs in those leagues. On tap next season: Dayton vs. Memphis, Saint Louis vs. USF on 11.29.26. Matchups for 2027 TBD. ESPN will air the games

Giving games to the programs who need them the least. Thank you so much.
