"Fairfax-- George Mason's Malachi DuVall has been named the Co-East Mid-American Conference (MAC) East Wrestler of the Week after an outstanding performance against conference foe Buffalo and NC State on Sunday.

DuVall had an outstanding weekend, winning both of his dual matches in impressive fashion. In the team's conference-opening victory over Buffalo, DuVall earned a dominant 13–1 major decision over Marcus Petite, avenging a 7–1 loss to Petite in last year's dual meet. In his second bout against NC State, DuVall needed just 92 seconds to pin Rylan Breen. The fall marked his nation-leading ninth Division I pin of the season—three more than any other wrestler nationally—and improved his overall record to 17–2.

The honor marks the third MAC Wrestler of the Week award this season for the Patriots. Logan Messer and Evan Maag won in back-to-back weeks, Nov. 11 and 18th. This is DuVall's fourth MAC Wrestler of the Week award overall."

"DJ McGee earned his seventh major decision of the season with a 11-5 win over Garrett McChesney to claim four points and a Mason lead, 13-5. Unfortunately, that would be the final win of the match for GMU."

"The 184-pound match-up was one of nationally-ranked wrestlers. #31 Malachi DuVall and #16 Jared McGill needed sudden victory after a 3-3 tie. McGill earned a takedown and increased the lead to 17-13 with two bouts remaining."

285 – Aden Roe (Edinboro) over Herbert Billups (0-7), Fall (2:57); Edinboro won 26-13

That is a really disappointing result, especially two of our ranked wrestlers losing close matches at home that would have really helped with their seeding in the MAC tournament and NCAA at large resumes.

However, we are missing preseason starters at 141 (Sullivan has not wrestled all year, never any info provided why), 149 (not sure why Cassidy didnt wrestle), 165 (Maag appears to be taking a medical RS after early season injury), 285 (Blackman has only wrestled in open tournaments and not in any duals, again no idea why/no info provided and he appears to be red shirting).

Preseason outlook was NCAA qualifiers at 141, 149, 157, 165, 184 and potential NCAA qualifiers at 174 and 285.

Now we appear to be down to just 149, 157, 174 and 184.

"Fairfax, Va. -- George Mason's Jack Kelly has been named the East Mid-American Conference (MAC) Wrestler of the Week after an outstanding performance this past weekend in two MAC matches.

Ranked 10th in the MAC entering the weekend, Jack Kelly delivered two statement upsets — knocking off the No. 8 and No. 5 wrestlers in the conference — to propel George Mason to conference wins over Clarion and Central Michigan. The victory over Central Michigan marked GMU's first-ever dual meet win over CMU.

On Friday against Clarion, the dual began at 125 pounds, and by the time the teams reached 197, Mason held a 20–12 lead. Clarion was favored in the final two bouts, putting the pressure squarely on the Patriots. Kelly faced eighth-ranked Wiant in a pivotal match and rose to the moment. In the second period, he secured a huge fall at 3:45, clinching the dual and sealing the team victory.

Sunday presented a similar high-stakes scenario against Central Michigan. The dual was tied 14–14 with only 197 and heavyweight remaining, and CMU was favored in both weights. At 197, Kelly squared off against fifth-ranked Cochran, while the heavyweight matchup featured Mason's 12th-ranked Billups against CMU's third-ranked Caves.

Kelly came out aggressively from the opening whistle and controlled the action throughout, earning a dominant 17–5 major decision. His win gave Mason the lead and set the stage for a historic dual victory — completing a clutch weekend performance that proved decisive in both team wins."

"Buffalo, NY -- George Mason wrestler #25 Malachi DuVall punched his ticket to the NCAAs today, while #27 Logan Messer will compete for a championship in the finals heading into the final day at the 2026 MAC Wrestling Championships held inside Alumni Arena in Buffalo, NY.

"MAC CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL

Buffalo, NY -- Buffalo, NY – Three George Mason wrestlers punched their ticket to the NCAAs, while four Patriots finished on the MAC Championship podium.

Logan Messer won his first MAC Championship title earning a trip to the NCAA Championships for the first time in his tremendous career as a Patriot. The Ohio native has 101 career wins and will compete in Cleveland at the national championship.

Malachi DuVall punched his ticket to the NCAA Championship for the third straight season with a second-place finish. After winning two straight yesterday to get into the championship bout, top-seeded Sal Perrine from Ohio defeated DuVall in the final.

McGee defeated K. Burgess from Buffalo in the third place match with a major decision, 12-2, to earn his third trip to the NCAA Championship.

Tate Hisey enjoyed his first MAC Championship finishing on the podium. The freshman won his first match on Friday before J. Brenneman from Edinboro narrowly defeated Hisey, 7-5. Hisey battled through consolations to finish sixth."

Top 25 ranked Kaden Cassidy at 149 injury defaulted in the tournament, but is still eligible (and likely) to receive an at large bid to NCAAT, and expects to be healthy enough to compete, which would give us 4 total in NCAA’s.

Cassidy received an at large bid at 149, giving us 4 guys in NCAA's.

Pretty good considering preseason predicted starters/NCAAT contenders at 141, 165 and 285 did not finish the season.

McGee (157) and Duvall (184) are dark horses to pull some upsets and contend for All-American status by finishing in the top 8.

"The Patriots delivered a strong showing on the national stage, sending four qualifiers to the tournament—the program's highest total in 25 years. Notably, all four advanced to the second day of competition for the first time in program history.

In his third NCAA appearance, DJ McGee finished among the top 16 in the country for the second consecutive season. He posted a 2-2 record, matching his performance from the 2025 championships, and now holds a 5-6 career mark at the NCAA Championships.

McGee's run came to an end in the third round of consolations against ninth-seeded Daniel Cardenas, who built a 6-1 lead after the first period and secured a technical fall victory. Earlier, McGee advanced with an impressive 10-4 win over Wisconsin's Luke Mechler, recording three takedowns while limiting Mechler to four escape points.

Kaden Cassidy saw his tournament conclude in the second round of consolations against 14th-seeded Caleb Rathjen of Northern Iowa. Cassidy, a two-time NCAA qualifier, finished the season with a 17-5 record and earned his first NCAA Championship victory, going 1-2 on the week. He closes his collegiate career with a 68-27 record and as a three-time MAC Championship place-winner.

Cassidy struck first in his final bout with a first-period takedown and accumulated 1:35 of riding time. However, Rathjen responded with three takedowns in the second period to take a 9-4 lead and ultimately claimed a 10-5 decision.

At 174 pounds, Logan Messer battled Binghamton's Carter Baer into sudden victory before falling 4-1. Messer caps an outstanding senior campaign as a MAC Champion with a 27-8 record. He finishes his career with 102 wins, ranking seventh in program history.

Malachi DuVall concluded his NCAA run with a 1-2 record, falling in the second round of consolations to American's Caleb Campos, 9-2. Campos scored all of his points in the final period. The redshirt senior ends his season at 23-6 and reached a milestone 100th career victory, becoming just the ninth wrestler in program history to do so. DuVall is also a two-time NCAA qualifier."
