Mason was up 3-0, significantly outplaying Marshall. Then they went into a shell and played like crab entire second half and ended up with a draw.

They were extremely lucky to hold on for the draw - took several incredible saves by our backup goal keeper (including a penalty shot).

If there was another minute or two they would have lost.

What a terrible last 15 min. How do you park the bus and still give up 2 goals?

We should be celebrating a win against a top 15 team.

It was sooo painful to watch. I don't think that was JUST them parking the bus, they could not hold possession for more than 10 seconds, were kicking it out of bounds, and constantly getting beat.

I thought they were going to get possession back after the penalty save, but they immediately turned it over.

I'm guessing it was a combination of exhaustion/mental, with credit to Marshall for playing out of their mind to earn the draw.

Were you there - how was the crowd?

"PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Senior midfielder James Eliuda netted his second goal of the season in the first half and senior midfielder Javier Montava Ortega converted a penalty kick in the second half in the Patriots 2-2 draw in at Saint Joseph's on Saturday afternoon.

Saint Joseph's (3-0-4, 0-0-1 A10) took the lead over George Mason (1-3-2, 0-1-1 A10) just past the midway point of the first half. In the 29th minute, the Hawks scored on a Patriots own goal to make it 1-0.

In the 34th minute, George Mason Eliuda scored the equalizer with his second goal of the season from the center of the penalty area to make the score 1-1. Fifth-year midfielder Matias de Jesus and sophomore forward Jaime Godinho each picked up their second assist of the year on the play.

Saint Joseph's regained the lead early in the second half. Hawks freshman defender Declan Sullivan was fouled in the penalty area by Patriots senior defender David Garcia while both players were trying to head the ball. After video relay, Saint Joseph's was awarded a penalty kick, and senior forward Jake Ross converted his first career penalty kick to make it 2-1.

In the 71st minute, Saint Joseph's was called for a handball inside the penalty area. Montava stepped to the spot and converted the equalizer for his first goal of the season to even the score 2-2."

They weren't allowing a lot of goals so I am glad GMU got a conference road draw and scored some to boot.

Host Ohio State (currently #3 in the country) Friday. Don't know how GMU got that one as a home game.

OSU is 5-1-1. They just lost at home vs Rutgers. Play vs UDUB before Mason. Hopefully these games will tire them out some.

Generally speaking, they are majorly outscoring and outshooting the opposition.

Didn't watch the whole game but did see the second red card and it was well-deserved. In fact, there were a number of obviously flagrant shoves by Mason in the 10 minutes or so that I watched. The Mason announcer made a big point in the second half (and before the second red card) that Mason was playing in an undisciplined fashion. Need to clean that up.

I was standing on far side of the track and some drunk fans were out of line. One walked onto the pitch during an injury. Disappointed how slow anyone from Mason moved them off the track. Said they could sit in stands. No one should cross the ropes let alone walking into the field.

Duquesne's write-up on the game - https://goduquesne.com/news/2026/10/3/mens-soccer-dukes-supply-late-magic-at-mason.aspx

"POINTS OF EMPHASIS
Tied, 1-1, and the clock winding down, Jaime Godinho of the Patriots was issued a red card after a Video Assisted Referee (VAR) at 82:11 due to a tackle. It forced George Mason, which was already down a man, to play the final eight minutes with nine players. The Dukes were able to capitalize, continually putting pressure on the defense of the Patriots before breaking through.
Redshirt senior Roni Badler, who earned just his second start of the 2026 season Saturday, placed a perfect cross into the box on the far side. Junior Ofek Sasson raced to the ball and provided a sliding kick that got past Mason goalkeeper Angel Hernandez at 87:27 to give Duquesne the lead. It marked the first career goal for Sasson.

I SEE RED
A physical game, especially in the second half, the contest featured seven yellow cards, including two from James Eliuda of George Mason, the second of which came at 73:09, automatically turned red and forced the Patriots to be a man down.
Eliuda, ironically, had drawn a foul on Duquesne goalkeeper Sam Coss that set up the first score of the contest. Awarded a penalty shot at 71:38 after a VAR, Javier Montava was able to score with some spin. The shot from the spot was saved by Coss, but he was unable to hold onto the ball, which popped up and had just enough English to bounce over the goal line and into the net to give George Mason a 1-0 advantage. The Dukes, meanwhile, were able to grab the equalizer just over five minutes later. On the attack after Eliuda was forced to the bench, redshirt sophomore Jameson Michel broke free in the box and provided a cross that split a pair of defenders. On the receiving end was redshirt senior Ashwin Menon, who buried the opportunity to tie the game at 76:46."

NOTES

"Duquesne improved to 5-0 all-time at George Mason Stadium"
