George Mason University Athletic Hall of Fame

AD Edwards/Coach Paulsen,

If you're reading this, I just want you to know that Rudolph Jones (who played for the Patriots in 1971-73) is the only men's basketball player inducted in the George Mason University Athletic Hall of Fame - see http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/gema/genrel/auto_pdf/hall-of-fame.pdf. Surely, it's time to recognize other outstanding players including those on the 2006 Final Four team.

Agreed. Its time to recognize those players (in all sports) who deserve to be in our HOF. The fact we only have 8 individuals in the HOF and nobody has been inducted since the 70's is brutal.

I'm curious if the recognition is for these athletes' time at Mason only, or if post-Mason would be considered.

Embarrassing a school of G Mas size and strong athletic programs (outside of men's basketball) dropped the ball on their own Hall of Fame. They need to get their act together.

.

This is dumbfounding to me. Linn was the last one elected in 1993.

I would actually love an explanation by the AD as to why. Did they just forget or not care about it. You would think it would be an easy enough thing to start up again.

Has anyone tried reaching out to Brad Edwards about this, or are we just going to have another offseason of beating dead horses to keep ourselves occupied?

I think all of the dead horses we beat on here have been addressed by the AD, or at least a lot of them. It's beyond any doubt that these Boards are read, but I nominate you to draft the letter to BE on our behalf.

My first nominee: Chris Jollay - career leader in intramural basketball points scored, and games played, though his final four seasons he played under the alias Bert Smiley.

Not me. By the way, thoughts on a practice facility and division 1 GMU Football?

I would be happy with a practice facility which is doable. Maybe a new Pat Dome

With the new legislation on subsidies? Don't think football is ever coming to Mason.

With the start up costs, I don't think we'll see football in the next decade, probably two decades minimum. But What Mason needs to do is publicly state that they're more than interested and say we'll build a program when we have X amount of dollars (which they kind of said). But to take it to the next level, a fund needs to be set up and at least money that is donated now can accrue interest over time. I guess you can call it a football endowment.

my bad. I thought it was the 70s. still, unacceptable.

thought for the group-
would a player need to be in the Mason HOF in order to get their number in the rafters of the Pat Dome?

Shouldn't the school at least hang Rudolph Jones' jersey number from the rafters, and preclude other players from wearing it (i.e., Nsilo Abraham & Marko Gujanicic have worn it)?

I think the biggest issue has been addressed, by far. I personally would like to see retired numbers, but I'm willing to cut BE some slack. He took care of the big thing.
