Game 20: AT Duquesne University, Saturday, January 31st, 7 PM, NO TV

Herndon

All-Conference
I'll see you next weekend in my seat next to the bench at St. Joe's Coach Hewitt. No bag on my head, no "Fire Hewitt" t-shirt. Maybe I'll just ask you over and over again how much you make. I know you don't like that.
LOL, I'll admit that the idea of the whole crowd just yelling over and over again "HOW MUCH MONEY DO YOU MAKE COACH HEWITT!?!?" makes me laugh.

On the bright side, at least you didn't spend three seasons attacking anyone that questioned Hewitt's coaching and questioning if they were real fans. Then you'd really look like an a**!

Seriously, you really are a tool. I'm always here to defend my views right or wrong, whereas you show up anonymously after a loss to gloat like a little kid. Anybody who I have disagreed with knows they can find me here, at games and in the Patriot Club, but you will always be hiding behind your computer like the coward that you are.

Our game looks like middle school compared to those two teams ... and that's being generous.

Well, any DI game might, but actually I sort of disagree. Duke was only on their game late, and uva wasn't themselves except early in the second half to midway. Plus Justin Anderson kind of sucked.
But of course good coaches do that...take other teams out of their element.
Anyway, we suck. Probably because of a bus ride. Larranaga's teams never rode one of those...

I dunno, maybe I could bring up his March 1st bonus. Maybe that would be mean. Seems a small price to pay given his job performance though. Anyone of you can come to my job and yell at me if my employer agrees to an $85,000 bonus on March 1st.

Even though I openly endorsed the Hewitt hire and actively defended giving him four years to right the ship, I agree with those who say Edwards should fire him before March 1. I initially thought it would make us look bad going into the A10 tournament with an interim coach, but what difference does it make at this point? As Dr. Gunnie pointed out, we could use that money for chartered planes and recruiting.

The thing is, the 85K has nothing to do with Hewitt, and EVERYTHING to do with the next coach. You REALLY don't want to set a precedent of "we're petty, stingy, and a-holes" right before you're trying to convince somebody to work for your organization for the next decade. It's probably worth paying Hewitt the money just for the mistrust saved from potential candidates (as much as it makes me grind my teeth to do so)

I don't make excuses for losses, particularly when the Patriots play as poorly as they did tonight. But, I can't express how upset I am that the school can afford a longevity bonus of $85,000 (earned each year on the arbitrary date of March 1), yet has its team travel half the night on a bus to Pittsburgh after a Thursday night game. Next time, please schedule a charter flight in this situation!

It's time for the school, coaching staff, & players to prove that they belong in the A10.

I guess you make a good point. Can't we get a good coach that would understand letting a guy go before an undeserved bonus though?

GMU has to suck it up and pay it just because TOC was an idiot and put the clause in there? Thinking of TOC in the moments before hiring Hewitt is nauseating. Thinking over and over to himself "I can't wait to tell Fairfax County I've hired Paul Hewitt. What a moment of glory to bask in."

Please travel to St. Joe's TOC - I want to yell at you too. What are you doing next weekend Merten?

You're absolutely right in that regard. I'm just tired of seeing mediocre coaching and mediocre players — the latter of which bothers me the most. My defense of Hewitt has always been that he has a track record of very good recruiting, but that's where he has failed us the most.

Certain people here have claimed we have the talent to be a good team, but we really don't and that's completely on him. The reality is that Hewitt has failed to recruit one guard that can consistently shoot wide open shots, which we saw that in spades tonight.

If this team had a snowball's chance in hell of doing anything meaningful this season, I'd totally agree with you. A bus ride that long combined with a 48-hour turnaround is far from optimal.

But if I was Edwards, I'd have a very difficult time spending the money on a charter flight knowing that we're just playing out the string in another lost season.

So wait, they bussed up last night right?

Who cares then about the bus ride? f*cking divas.

Playing Thursday night, taking a 5-hour bus ride and playing again Saturday night is not a recipe for success.

In the future, if the A10 insists on scheduling Thursday-Saturday games for TV purposes, we'll need to charter to give our guys the best chance to win.

I agree...but a flight through airports is a minimum three hours regardless.

No sympathy. I mean Christ, CAA tourneys we played every day and there was a giant polar bear running through the Marriott pulling fire alarms all night most years.

No sympathy.

The bus thing is a red herring, and really at the bottom of the barrel of excuses.

I've driven to Pittsburgh (from Burke, where I live) a half dozen times - a few of those times towing a trailer with a car on it.

I've flown to Pittsburgh twice for work (starting from Burke as well, driving to the airport, waiting in line, going through security, waiting around for the flight, and then being jammed in to the tiny seats for an hour, etc).

Driving is pretty much just as fast when you consider the "entire trip". Not to mention, buses actually have more legroom than a plane and more opportunity to move around. Bus travel isn't any more tiring than air travel and all the other BS associated with it.....actually in many ways it's easier. It picks you up at your place, throw your bag in the bottom, sleep for a few hours or whatever, and it delivers you directly to your destination. Being overseas in high school, we had some bus trips to other schools for hoops (and other sports) that were nearly 12 hours. It was never a big deal, and that was on crappy Italian roads, lol.

Flying to UMASS - for sure. Flying to Pittsburgh just seems stupid and pointless.

Nobody puts Paul H. Hewitt on a bus. He flew to the game while everyone else rode the bus. Cmon people! Hewitt on a bus? He took a limo 150 feet from richmond marriott to the brown turd.
