Didn't he declare for NBA which would make not eligible for collegeper new rules?

Unfortunately, the NCAA doesn’t work by logical decisions
I know I’m on an island here, but I actually think the right decision is to let these young adults test the waters.

Let them go to Summer League, which, in my opinion, is still essentially amateur basketball. As long as they don’t sign an official NBA contract, let them come back to school, earn money through NIL, and represent a university.

Especially until the 5-for-5 rule takes effect, I don’t see the harm in giving players that flexibility.

And let’s not forget, Mason just brought in James Nnaji.

Let me get this straight. Hall can play in the big East, but he can't play in the S. E! C big ten, and now most recently, the ACC as all three conferences have aligned to say, you can't come here if you've declared for the league and or signed a contract that pays more than per diem.
Did Hall sign such contract? Pretty sure he declared for the draft every year he's been in college. LoL

James Nnaji shouldn’t have been eligible to even play for Baylor let alone us. Also, he didn’t play 4 years of collegiate basketball already, like Keyshawn Hall has.

Also not a huge fan of courts just coming in and obliterating any rules the NCAA either makes or amends (and this is going to be even worse now that these guys are getting paid better than NBA rookies in some cases, certainly more than G League and most International professionals).

"With Hall getting the TRO, this will make him eligible, and he can practice with the team as the season quickly approaches. The regular season kicks off for St. John’s on November 2nd against Monmouth University, and all of this eligibility stuff needs to be figured out and resolved soon."

Are we concerned about Nnaji eligibility. I know he’s been dealing with injuries anyway. But asking solely on eligibility.

No because he didn’t play college before going to Baylor last year. He was drafted out of Europe and I don’t think he ever played in the U.S. at least his Wiki page says he played for Barcelona until 2025 even though he was drafted in 2023. Could have been a situation where he had a transfer fee and the Pistons didn’t want to pay it and let him stay in Europe.

Edit: this is to say that Nnaji’s case is entirely different than Keyshawn’s, who exhausted his college eligibility under the old rules and is now trying to get an extra year under the new ones.

"The St. John’s Red Storm is only a few weeks away from taking the court for the first time in the 2026-27 men’s college basketball season, and they still don’t know who will be in the lineup for the season.

One player still in limbo is Keyshawn Hall. On Tuesday, the injunction hearing for the forward was supposed to be held at the Queens Supreme Court, but it has been delayed another week until Oct. 13."
