Yeah, Brian was the most ardent fan in our history and made huge financial contributions to the program year after year. He traveled to every road game in addition to home. I wish he would come back to the boards and the games.. But, I understand and respect his position as well. Mason's loss.

FWIW, I know GMUBrianGMU is alive because he texted me the other day when he saw the cover of the recent edition of the Mason Magazine. IYKYK.

Can you share why he has stopped posting here and following the basketball team?

Sorry, it's not my place to share that.
I can.

As a young man, Brian's dream was to play division I college basketball. Ironically however, Brian never played organized basketball or had any natural basketball talent. Nevertheless, he persisted.

He developed a plan over decades to donate larger and larger amounts of money in exchange for eventually being granted a roster spot as an actual member of the Mason team.

His plan was codified late one evening after many diet cokes in the seedy back room of Brion's grill by Coach L and TOC. President Merton was present as well but for obvious reasons couldn't officially participate in the agreement - but he was aware and approved.

Following this agreement, Mason's men's team saw a meteoric rise beginning with their 1st NCAAT appearance in March of 1999, and leading up the famed run to the final 4 in 2006.

In order to avoid suspicion, many of Brian's donations were funneled through a shell company known as "McKay Chevrolet".

Brian was patient. Everytime he asked if he could join the team next year, it was always "not next year, but maybe the year after."

Eventually, Tony Skinn returned to coach. Ironically CTS was a direct beneficiary of Brian's generosity as he eventually lead them to the final 4.

With Brian's patience waning, he eventually posed the question to Skinn following his initial year of being the HC. He was courteous and wanted to give CTS some time to get settled in.

When he posed the question, CTS responded "Hell f'ng no, I'm trying to make it to the NCAAT and get a P4 job - you crazy?!"

Brian and his donations were never seen again.

lol this thread is off the rails- also for what its worth - Brian would like to keep the information away from the interwebz. He does say hello and send his best.

It’s a long story. Someone in the field house (correct me if I’m wrong) said he wasn’t a “real Mason fan” or something to that effect. He then proceeded to publicly embarrass them with a series of posts saying he must not be real in their eyes despite having spent x amount of money on tickets merch and donations like he has. He sold off a lot of stuff and I happened to get a basketball signed by the 06 team.

Lol that was something that happened in December 2021 with @dr. gunnie not GMUBrian. The infamous Dawn Hicks and swimmom decided to basically start a twitter war with some mason fans because we were pissed that we lost a buy game to Norfolk State. They said it was okay and Dawn said we could still make the A10 tournament, lol.

It was December 26, 2020, and the Patriots had 3 future NBA players - https://gomason.com/sports/mens-basketball/stats/2020-21/norfolk-state/boxscore/10931
