Well... the team does need practice pylons. Perhaps Bryton will blow up. [Patriot] Pressure creates diamonds!

His twitter account (above in thread) indicates offers from Davis & Elkins (Div 3?) and Howard in Fall '25.

I’m not too concerned. Let him redshirt and develop. He looks pretty athletic in his highlights. And with a 7ft wingspan, he’s got the D1 frame.

Some Patriots that worked out well that didn’t have a long list of offers… Otis Livingston, Luke Hancock, and Tyler Kolek.

Discovering diamonds in the rough and polishing them up has long been a strength of Mason Basketball. This is literally an all-upside play with the 14th scholarship. Good luck to Bryton and let’s see what he becomes.

Josh Oduro.. reserve at PVI with no offers accept Mason...

According to ESPN he had three other offers, so did Luke Hancock. We were their best offers at the time, but they did have other offers on the table.

Jordan Miller it was us or no one.

Justin Kier was another one with us as his only D1 offer. He turned out pretty good.

Kolek doesn’t belong on this list. He had 20 offers. No P5, but some solid mid-majors including three A10 schools (Richmond, Bona, and Mason).

Kolek didn’t even get an offer from Providence. Nobody thought he’d become an NBA player — he’s 100% a development success.

For him to do a full Jordan Miller he has to redshirt, then TS has to play him with 10 games left in the season burning the redshirt.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but Jordan played in 17 games his freshman year.

From GMU's Fourth Estate after playing in his first game:
"According to Paulsen, the freshman guard improved significantly in practice after he said he was going to redshirt. “As soon as [Miller] said he was going to redshirt he stopped worrying about expectations, he stopped worrying about ‘what if I don’t play,’” Paulsen said. “…We talk a lot about the process of getting better and not worrying about results, not worrying about playing time and he was the epitome of that.”

He went on to say that part of the decision for Miller not to redshirt came from practice—and part was opportunity. The Patriots have seen two starters go down with a foot injury, senior Jaire Grayer and sophomore Goanar Mar. Grayer has not played since November, while Mar is currently out indefinitely in order to correct a foot fracture."

This brought back a lot of painful memories of the DP era for me

Not to be that guy, but with the potential new NCAA rules, redshirts would no longer exist because everyone just gets five years.

Watched some tape on the kid last night. Lanky, needs to put on muscle and weight like every freshman, but he's got good shooting form and shows a willingness to get to the basket as well. Think of the recent late freshman gets (Stas, RPM, now Bryton), he's got the highest floor at the time of his commitment. There's a D1 starter in here for sure, just can't say for sure that'll be with us as the current rules regarding transfers stand.

I guess that I haven't followed the potential new NCAA rules that closely. I just assumed that the 5th year could only be used for those that hadn't used up their 4 seasons where they played and had gotten a red shirt season. But the 5 yr limit meant that one couldn't play a 6th year, even if they had what previously been a second injury red shirt year (a la Jalen Haynes).

You seem to be interpreting the 5 year limit as allowing a player to actually play all 5 years and not needing to apply for a red shirt,
