I’d usually agree with you but I don’t think continuity is what it once was. Everyone was slobbering over at very mid GW team returning the bulk of their production going into this year and they ended up being insanely mid yet again. If the players aren’t good enough a summer generally won’t change that.
Our coach is infinity times better than that bald goober

GW is about to lose their entire roster (yes you read that right) to graduation and the transfer portal despite paying out a ridiculous amount of NIL money for a team that finished in the NIT and managed to lose in the last minute SEVEN times last season because of awful coaching. Chris Caputo is well on his way to never getting a Division I head coaching job ever again after this upcoming season where they inevitably go 12-20.

One note - mincy, Allenspach and Long are still on campus. They only announced their intentions. The number 1 tasks is to keep them in the fold.

It def sucks to lose our top 6 scorers this off season. The only redeeming factor I can think of is Tony being able to build patriot pressure back in Fairfax. I think he went offensive this season and it got us some fun wins but the defense sucked. TS pretty much abandoned any defensive pressure and it sucked watching dudes go off on us every game, a walk on PG cooking us and absolutely no rim protection. I've never seen so make sport center dunks on us in a season. Hopefully Mason can give TS enough NIL for that.

Top 6 scorers? Is Hill transferring too?

What ridiculous amount are you talking about??

2-3 million is peanuts compared compared to vcu, Dayton and St Louis. They were really successful on a shoe string budget.

Are we going to do the same depression discussion every April guys?? Like players are going to come and go, that’s what it is now.

Don’t know what happened with Jahari. Thought he was coming back. Things change. But I’m a bit confused by this one to say the least.

Terrance hill from vcu is hitting the portal. See they lose guys too (and don’t hit me with that “well they will get some other stud), lol.
Until something changes or I quit watching altogether…probably

Why do you think he’ll be terrific? Honest question

Stas had the highest +/- on the team for conference games.
He's 6'10 and moves well. He was able to switch on perimeter on defense and guards struggled scoring over him.
He sets solid screens, moves the ball well and can hit 3s on offense.
He played well with Kanga and complimented him well.
Big men take longer to develop. He looked much improved from his freshman year and I would like to see him in the system for 2 more years.

Yes, he needs to get stronger and tougher. Rebounding and post defense are areas where he really needs to improve.
Lion did a really great job covering most of my rationale here, but there's one other thing.

To my untrained eye, Stas seems to always be in the right place at the right time (he's got the mental part of the game down), but hasn't always had the strength to execute what was needed. He wouldn't be the first guy to need an extra year of strengthening to really compete at this level.

I don't think it's out of the question that he improves his strength a bit, and ends up around 10 points (1-2 threes per game, a layup on a back cut, a put-back and one, 3-5 from the free throw line), 6 boards, 2 assists and 2 stocks. As the 5th or 6th option on a team, that works for me.

I haven't seen them mentioned yet, but Louisiana Tech has two players Mason previously targeted in the portal (they're a team based on defense and toughness, and it seems like a lot of the concepts they run are similar to Mason).

The first is AJ Bates, a 6'3 PG Mason was in on before Okojie decided to come here. In the CUSA tournament, Bates was darn near unstoppable (think Long against Liberty, but setting up his guys with about 6 more alley oops while also scoring at will).

The second is Avery Thomas II. For LATech, he played mainly stretch 4 (the Woodie role), getting 9 points and 7 boards per game. Thomas started in Juco, where he was a couple of free throws made short of the Durant line (he was at 50%/40%/81%).

There were several rumors about Thomas last year as the final piece (I may be misremembering, but Thomas was rumored... then Kaseem Watson.... then we shifted gears and brought in RPM).

Mason and vcu have the same yearly student fee of $3,800. vcu though has a separate athletic fee of $1,400 that generates them $41M yearly. Mason will never be on par with vcu.
Mason has about 10k more students than vcu, so it would not need a 1400 dollar fee to generate similar money. Something like a 500 dollar per semester fee or 1000 per year across about 40k students gets you close to 40 million annually, which is basically what vcu is bringing in.

And that is still a lot less than what vcu students are paying. This is not really a resource issue, it is just a choice Mason has not made.
