Would appear the whole educational aspect of this has been lost. Being a mid-major at what point does the university jettison the AD and get back to its primary business?

Yeah. Again I will point out these guys can go to any number of leagues around the world, make money, and continue to play the game. College is not the only other option.

College ball in the US nowadays pays more than overseas and G league. There’s a real rationale for them trying to come back. None of this will get fixed until congress gets off its a**, NCAA has all but said they are tired of losing lawsuits and need legal regulation to step in.

That’s not going to happen anytime soon. Congress has much bigger fish to fry…

I agree, but Congress hasn't been known to take on the bigger fish in it's deliberations. They usually find a distraction, like NCAA issues, on which to spend their time. Let's face it, the NCAA crosses party lines and if a solution could be found, and legislated, they could be heroes.

I've been preparing the game thread for the Homecoming game against St. Joe's and learned that Deuce Jones III was dismissed from the team in December after just 10 games. He was chosen to the 1st Team All-Conference Team in preseason polls and was A10 Rookie of the Year last season.

Here is an interesting read about his dismissal, the portal, and NIL in general.

Such a sad state of affairs we are in now.
If I were a coach, I might be happy settling in at a D-3 school and retiring after a rewarding career coaching young men in a sport I love.
Bluefield College in the mountains of SW VA comes to mind.

Do you have a relationship to Bluefield? My step dad played a season or two there before transferring to Mary Wash.

I work at a DIII school, and the athletics culture is such a different animal. I've interacted with coaches, athletic administration, and student athletes, and they are so grateful, prideful (in a really good way), and are clearly here to be students first. It's free to attend nearly every event (except conference and NCAA tournaments, of course), and while we're never going to have the fan experience that us Mason fans clamor for, it's still a ton of fun and accessible. My kids love the women's basketball and soccer games in particular. That's a long way of saying, I agree with you!
