Piss poor effort for 40 minutes on defense today. Couldn't guard anyone and I am still astonished at how easily they got to the rim. Not much better on the offensive end. But, a win is a win is a win. 11-1. Those who predicted a letdown were right. We barely handled one of the worst teams in the country on our own floor. In past years we would have soiled the sheets so.......

Fat Hill out with an "illness".
Bill did say Fatt was sick and they didn't want him around the team infecting others.

I was at the game and it wasn't until I read the boards did I realize Hill didn't play. Mincy being sick would make a difference; Hill not so much.
I was there too and noticed he was missing when Booker came in. It seems like these things aren't announced before the game so the Vegas goons likely didn't factor that into the simulation. It has to play a factor to some degree.

Horrible defensive effort most of the game. Tony better start sitting people who don't play D. They had 3 guys who kept them in the game and we couldn't guard them. I'm hoping this is a letdown right before the holidays but based on what I saw today not too sure. Please Santa we need defense in our stockings. Merry Christmas to all.

I thought Adebayo actually deserved more minutes today. 6 rebounds in 9 minutes. No complete boneheaded plays that I saw.

Happy for Stas though. He played okay. But we’re going to need Adebayo and Ellington in conference play. Their ceilings right now are just much higher. When Adebayo is playing decent, I think it would be beneficial to let him get some more minutes and get his comfort and confidence back.

I rewatched the game at home. I think we are underselling this win a bit. Loyola was coming out fast and aggressive - we adjusted and worked them harder in the second half. They are not a bad team at all. I have been impressed with how we look faster than in previous years and can show some strength under the bucket when needed.

GIVING DAY 2023
Tony definitely torked. Jumping at the media. I would hate to be one of the players right now.

Not the best showing from the media today either. Maybe the break will give the reporters a chance to work on their questions and ability to follow simple procedure.
I think this is the same guy that at the last PC tried to ask Tony a question at the wrong time.

I'm curious who it is. I suspect it could be a nervous student who is trying to learn. If its a professional then that's really not good.

Interesting to see Stas get almost 15 minutes today and mostly playing the 5 over Ellington and Kanga. Ellington had less than 2 minutes. Maybe that was by design knowing that Santa's Little Helper wanted to shoot a lot of 3s. Maybe it was a reflection of Ellington's latest practice efforts or something else. Just wanted to put it out there for discussion. Tony said he thought Stas was "okay" today. He had a couple blocks and clutch free throws, but nothing outstanding.

I disagree here. Stas was instrumental in the team securing several key stops to wrest some control over the game. Tony was correct in the presser, "We don't win this game without Stas."

You think it was because Stas was able to stretch the defense more than Ellington and Kanga on the perimeter or why do you think Stas ended up with above average minutes?

Because Stas brought needed energy to the floor that others lacked. The game turned with Stas. I think it had nothing to do with tactics and more about keeping a guy in the gane who was "bringing it".

Fair enough. With under 2 minutes for Ellington I hardly remember the possessions he was in the game. Kanga did have at least one blocked shot, but missed a set of free throws. Kanga seemed like his normal energy around the rim.

Kenpom 327 (was 337 before playing us). For the year, they shoot 31% from 3 (45% against us) and 66% from the ft line (82% against us). Their defensive efficiency is ranked 348th.

While they may have looked pretty good against us, the data would appear to show that they are indeed a bad team.
