Roster: https://loyolaramblers.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster
Stats: https://loyolaramblers.com/documents/2022/12/31/MBB_Season_Stats.pdf

We won the first meeting of the year 86-75. We were paced by Devon Cooper (17), Josh Oduro (17) Malik Henry (15), Victor Bailey (14), and Ronald Polite (12). Not very often you get 5 guys with double figures like that. They were paced by Philip Alston (23), Ben Schwieger (17), and Braden Norris (12).
Box score: https://loyolaramblers.com/sports/mens-basketball/stats/2022-23/george-mason/boxscore/5961

Loyola is led by 6’6” Philip Alston (14.6 ppg & 5.7 reb) and 6’0” Braden Norris (10.4 ppg). Their starting lineup has varied over the course of the season with 8 guys having started at least 3 times. 6’9” Bryce Golden (4.7 ppg), 6’7” Ben Schwieger (9.4 ppg), and 6’3” Jalen Quinn (2.9 ppg) have rounded out the starting lineup of late.

Loyola averages 66.7 points per game while giving up 72.1. The Ramblers shoot 46.9% from the floor and 33.4% from 3. Opponents are shooting 45.1% from the field and 33.7% from 3. The Ramblers shoot 68.2% from the free throw line. They have been out rebounded opponents by .6 boards per game. They average 16.3 turnovers per contest.

The game is on USA.

My prediction: They have had a tough time with their transition to the A10 but I still don’t like our road record. We still only have 1 true road win. We make it 2 as GMU pulls out a close one. GMU 72 — Loyola Chicago 71.

Discuss.

Flying out tomorrow morning for this one. We are gonna win this by double digits and will chase shots of Malort with sister jeans old lady tears.

Be ready to discuss the path to the top 4 after the game, because it still very much exists in this poo poo A10.

With the road win over Rhodey, I am a little more confident in us then I was when we played them a month ago in beating a bad team on the road. They've looked better, but they've struggled to put it together. Mason by 8, take the momentum into Dusqy.

We need to beat these bad teams, even on the road. Justyn is hitting his stride and Ticket may be back for this one. Malik playing well along with Oduro.... pound the ball inside and take what they give you on the outside.

5 very winnable games in a row coming up here with a chance to come into late Feb at 10-5 in league play which could put us right up there.
I'd like to be that optimistic. Certainly before the season started, I would have thought we'd have a real shot at winning all 5. The reality, though, is that since the A10 conference season started, we have yet to win TWO games in a row. Five more on top of last night's win is a real tall order. Kenpom has us as underdogs at Duquesne (+3) and at GW (+1).

I definitely think playing the teams behind Mason should lead to some wins. I worry about a let down at Loy Chi. If they end up 10-5 that would make us very very happy.

However with Ticket back I'm hopeful that some consistency will also return. They were 9-5 with him playing, and since they are 4-5.

One game at a time.

Time for the team to hot the final stretch and build momentum for March. If they stumble, even on the road, to the bottom feeders just log in for the conference tourney.

My reverse psychology pick worked to perfection as Mason played a great tough game against UMass to make my UMass win prediction wrong. I'm now 1-6. Gonna keep this thing going by predicting we lose this game due to late night partying in Chi-town. Hope that the "Ticket" exchange proves me wrong.

Heading to the airport now, will give a full report on the cold ones from the arena tomorrow.

I have a feeling that we are going to eviscerate them. If ticket comes back for this, all the stars will be aligning with Justyn hitting a stride, Oduro looking like a legit MVP candidate, etc. still some work to do on solidifying a rotation and staying with it but I really like how the next few weeks are looking to shape up.
