Reason why some league are doing this is some people believe gamesmanship is still happening to get out of playing games and not taking on losses. So if a team has seven available but doesn’t want to play, A-10 still has option to levy forfeit if circumstance calls for it.

From what I’m told, if a game can’t be rescheduled, it’s a no-contest. But if one team opts out of playing that rescheduled game, the A-10 still holds the right to decalre it a forfeit, per source. (Pac-12 has a similar rule in place.) A-10 is going seven-and-one rule.

Another: The A-10 voted this morning and changed its forfeit protocols, according to a source. An announcement is expected to arrive later this afternoon. Games that can’t be played b/c of COVID-19 will be postponed and rescheduled. There is a forfeit option on the table ...

Not sure what the A10 rules on that are. I suspect there's a caveat for a min. numbers of players/coaches ready than must play or forfeit.

I know but my biggest concern is that mason plays vcu, contracts omicron and is impacted, for say, the next 2 weeks of the conference play.

Looking forward to the A-10's first place team at the end of the season going 3-0 with wins over Fordham, GW & SJU

I hope the A10 proactively reschedules games for teams that are on pauses, would like for us to play basketball on Thursday.

This will likely be unpopular, but, it seems probable that most, if not all, teams are going to have a bout of omicron before we get out of the season. Other teams are getting their bout out of way during the slow period. I fear we may luck into poor timing on this one and get ours during a peak playing period in-conference.

Sounds like a reasonable concern to me.

We should try to fill Thursday's game with Georgetown, even if we have to go to Capital One Arena or McDonough Gym. They've had their last four games canceled, so the timing would be perfect if all of their players have cleared protocols.

Reasonable.

On the flip side, a number of experts expect this to be a fast moving wave and quite possibly the last meaningful one before the pandemic moves to a good ole fashioned endemic. Perhaps our trip to SD was our COVID time. (fingers crossed)

"WASHINGTON – The BIG EAST Conference has announced that the St. John's at Georgetown game, which was scheduled for Saturday, January 1, has been canceled due to COVID issues within both programs. Additionally, the Xavier at Georgetown game, which was scheduled for Tuesday, January 4, has been canceled due to COVID issues within the Georgetown program."

Other than those small details, I thought I had a really good idea.

We’ve got more. Also on A-10 postpoment list for Thursday, per sources:

Dayton-Rhode Island
Davidson-Duquesne
St. Bonaventure-GW
Saint Louis-UMass

None getting played Thursday. I think the A-10 has been hit as hard—if not harder—by postponements this week than any other league.
