Paulsen hired at Fordham

Good for him and good hire for Fordham. Not sure what the rules are for on-court coaching from a special advisor, but Fordham gets another experienced Coach w/past success and A-10 knowledge at a bargain rate. Should help offset Mason's buyout a little bit too.

Kyle Neptune is another young up-and-comer in his first year as a Head Coach. He might be relying on DP as a sounding board the way CKE says he does Felton. Hope it turns into something bigger & better for him. Glad we went another direction but don't have any hard feelings for DP.

Constructive well thought out positive comments are not accepted here. What is wrong with you! :ROFLMAO:

That said, no idea how much he will actually help out Fordham but it certainly can't hurt. Maybe he helps make sure kids goes to class and sets up nice things in the community amongst other duties (mentoring etc)

Good for Dave. He always had the best of intentions for our program, and I will always appreciate his commitment to the university even if he fell short. His experiences good and bad as a head coach in the A10 will serve him well as an advisor at Fordham.

His biggest failure remains not convincing the Hewitt recruits to stick around. Jackson, Porter, Lockett, and (NCAA cleared) Mayimba, along w/Livingston, Grayer, Jenkins and Moore could've been a pretty competitive squad.

CKE doesn't convince Josh to stick around (& there's no transfer portal in 2015, the TJ Maxx of college sports), he's looking at a much tougher season.

Agreed. Mayimba was never going to be cleared, but your general point remains on the mark.

For Fordham to be competitive in the A-10 they'd need a Coach K in hiis prime, 5 years and some rich alumni willing to support the program

I dont know the financial suituation but DII may be a better choice for them

If Fordham leaves the A10 (which I believe is unlikely), I would expect the school to rejoin the Patriot League (where it's an associate member for football) rather than dropping down to DII.

Trivia question - Name the A10 school that was a charter member of the Patriot League?

Fordham’s basketball budget is in the top 7 of the A10 and top 100 in the NCAA. It’s also more than twice the average budget in the Patriot. A lot of that has to do with their location, I’m sure. But think about that for a second.

All of that, and I still don’t think they’d be a lock to win the patriot league year in year out. Most years, sure, but not every year.

We can all poke fun at Fordham but a lot of it has to do with the coaches they have hired over the years. Neubauer was a puzzling hire with no connections to the city or region at all. Tom Pecora was good at Hofstra but also had 3 not so great seasons and then they hired him. When I went to the Mason/Fordham game in 2020, I spoke to an alum who mentioned Kyle Neptune and that they really needed to hire someone who had ties to the region and be an up and comer from a catholic school. Whether it works, TBD.

Not going to lie, its a tough place to win and we all know why. The gym is stuck in 1950 with no concessions, no hospitality space all while being attached to a student center. Nobody is going to haul all the way to the Bronx to watch a basketball game, let alone a program that hasn't even sniffed competitiveness for 15-20 years. I could only imagine where players lift weights or what their locker rooms are like. Perhaps that is why someone like Paulsen will be good for them, because he obviously gave Brad/Dr Cabrera some recommendations on how to improve, and he can bring that knowledge with him to Fordham where their entire program from bottom to top can only go up. They obviously have a few bucks to spend considering what their budget is.

I am totally ignorant when it comes to the Fordham campus and facilities. Is there room to expand the facilities or build something new?

I honestly don't know what their land breakdown is. If I had to guess, there is probably space to knock down or expand somewhere. They probably could repurpose the center attached to Rose Hill Gym and make it athletics specific. I have to think that Neptune had conversations about what needs to be improved considering he was coming from Villanova but then again Ashley Howard came from Villanova and Lasalle hasn't done anything to my knowledge for him with respect to facilities etc.

It's been a long time since I've been up there but I remember the campus being nice. I am jealous the students are so close to Little Italy and not too far away from Spanish Harlem.

Yeah its not like there aren't things to do that are fun within the vicinity. Botanical gardens, Bronx Zoo, Arthur Avenue. I just don't think they have tried to be very competitive when it comes to basketball but I'm stating obvious here.

If I had gone to Fordham I'd be a meaty (and happy) college student from eating all the gabagool.
