This is what we get for being mediocre for the past ten years. Hopefully we have the pieces in place for this year to surprise people.

Sure, but GW ahead of us? Also would be surprised if Davidson finishes that high. I’m thinking that the reverse bias going on there.

Lindy’s sucks. They picked us too low most years even when we were bad to meh, no reason to expect they have any more insight about the A-10 now.

Other than Blue Ribbon, most of the magazines now pay little attention to anything but the P5 conferences and I give their predictions zero credence.

Almost all lazy analysis from those guys, half of y’all could do better predictions with 2 hours worth of googling (which seems to be about what they do).

Surprised that anyone is still giving them money given how bad they’ve been since 2010-ish.

I mean, I get it. There are a few holes/ question marks with this roster. With only 3 clear starters, a first time head coach, and a lot of new additions, it is a lot safer to put us near the bottom than near the top.

Can Kabimba or Henry give us depth at the 5? Who will facilitate the offense? How will English do with X's and O's? Can the team gel with all the new guys? Sounds like the open practice left more questions than answers as well.

But if Schwartz is "newcomer of the year", I think we'll be just fine.

Lol. Give KE bulletin board material.

Not saying we should be #1...but this is the coach that will strive to make them eat their words.
As FreeGunston12 said, I'm okay with it too. We've got lots of unknowns. But, as you say, if KE is the coach and motivator we think he is, we should finish well above 10th. Still, not a game has been played yet. Fingers crossed.

I won’t be surprised if mason gets picked in the 8-10 range by most articles. New coach, a lot of new bodies and lots of unknown.

That said GW and st joes have been two of the worst teams over the last few years with lasalle and Fordham, so I’m surprised they got picked over mason, but hey whatever. I think Billy Lange is straight up terrible as a coach.

DP was “turrible” as Chuck would say, but even his teams has some decent conference records.

I think many people when trying to do projections (me included back in the day) look at how many point producing high stat players have left. Looking just at that it's easy to say Mason would be worse. This year I took the time and had a more nuanced approach. I noticed that some of the players we still have should have been playing more, and others alot less than they were last year. Josh should have been in the game much more than 56% of the time. Hartwell should have played more and been encouraged/supported to shoot more behind the arc. AJ's block record was a detriment to perimeter defense and was not an asset. In the end Paulsen didn't create the best line up and we salon saw a disconnect in the locker room. It really seems like Coach English realizes the strength of our existing players just from his basketball acumen, and with the experienced transfers we have the sky is the limit. If you aren't able to really dig into the details of each team I understand why someone would put us 10 but I still think its a bad take and we are gonna blow away expectations.

So do I.

Last year's record was pretty fake when you look at the teams we played/didn't play. We were worse than it shows and got curb-stomped by Davidson in the tournament.
Lost 4-of -5 of our top scorers, 6-of-7 of our top rebounders, and our 3 assists leaders.
At most, we'll have one returning starter.
Have an entirely new coaching staff w/a first year head coach.
Teams picked 1-6 should absolutely be ranked ahead of us given returns/transfers until we prove it otherwise on the court. So at best, arguing that we should be 7th instead of 10th.

I think we'll do better than we're listed and not getting GW above us, but whatever.

Agreed. We as fans can argue that at least on paper we have replaced and upgraded a lot of the talent that fits into some of these categories but so can everyone else.

That said I have no idea why St Joes would be listed higher than 13th at this juncture considering their coach has been awful. Sure you could point to injuries, but they are 11-41 in two years overall and 5-25 in conference. To me thats a big yikes no matter what type of transfer talent potential they have.

The whole point of these is for us to argue over them when there isn’t anything else to argue about, so thank you for the fodder Lindy’s.

I skipped over St. Joes and didn’t even see them that high. Unless they discover defense this year, I have a hard time believing they will finish in the top half. Looking at GW’s roster I can’t imagine how they won’t be battling for the PIG this year too. At least La Salle got a ton of transfer reinforcements. I could see them being a bit of a surprise.
