If I am basing it on where players transferred to, did we lose the most talent? Maybe Davidson since they lost a couple guys to Duke and Kentucky.

July 1st is the deadline if they want to be eligible for next season. Still a few days left...

Interestingly, just read that in future years the deadline will be May 1st.
That month after the season ends is going to be absolute madness going forward. Have a feeling guys will eventually stop waiting until the tournament to be over to announce to give themselves more time in the portal if they are coming from teams that aren’t dancing.

Wouldn’t be surprised if we had one open by July 1. With the start of summer workouts guys are figuring out where they sit in the pecking order — and if we’re being mentioned with a transfer at this point it most likely means one of the current players is at least thinking of leaving.

Could be one of the four "point guards" on the team. Even if Gray plays typical freshman minutes, that's still 3 players vying for 40 minutes at the 1 and/or the scraps left over at the 2. Someone is going to get squeezed out of that rotation.

With the extra COVID year XJ has 3 years of eligibility left. Purely a guess but he’d be my top candidate at this point…

Could see it. But we also have 8 guys that are between 6-6 and 6-10 on the roster. And then you are potentially looking at adding a 6-11 guy. With the minutes Schwartz and Oduro will be getting and assuming Garcia would start, that's a lot of guys competing for very few backup minutes.

Which if English ends up going with what he’s talked about before, he wants to push towards. 8 man rotations by conference play is what he’s said in the past, which I wholeheartedly think is a good thing. Let guys get into grooves, play through slumps, etc. Push all of your guys to push each other for those precious minutes.

6 of those guys are perimeter players, though. Much less competition at the 5 than anywhere else on the roster. I honestly don’t see Mason landing him regardless, doesn’t mean you don’t try.

Wholeheartedly agree that the 5 is where we could improve (and that Mason isn't going to land him anyways). Still think between Frazier, Jones, Mbaye, Henry, Gadsden, and Gaines that somebody would be out of minutes if a 5 was added. Seems to me that without a solid starter at the 1 or solid backup at the 2 that Hartwell, XJ, Polite, and Gray would be as likely to stick around as any of those named previously.

Yes, I think Hartwell is staying, regardless. And I'm okay with that. Been here his whole career. Finish well, and get your Mason degree young man.

I am REALLY excited to see the newbies this staff brought in - Jones and Mbaye. I love the vets we've brought in, and the ones we've managed to keep from past teams. But these young'ins are probably going to be something special with the level of coaching they're likely to get while here under KE.

If I were to pick any one returning player on our roster who English is going to mentor, I would put my money on Hartwell. Coach was an undersized guard himself in college who knows what it's like to struggle with consistency, and I think he sees a lot of upside in Jamal's game. No, I'm not comparing their respective talent levels, but I do think he sees the upside in Hartwell's game and values his experience.

And despite his shortcomings on defense, it wouldn't shock me to see Jamal get some spot duty at the 2 when Polite, Johnson or Gray are running the point. This team lacks great perimeter shooters — especially with Kolek and Miller departing — so my hunch is that English will do all he can to use Jamal as a possible weapon in that regard.

With that said, cue the Hartwell bashing in 3... 2... 1...
