The JMU rivalry might be losing some heat. Used to draw over 7k for them, but the last four times we played them at home we only broke 4,000 once (this is going back to the CAA days). Last time we had good attendance for this game was on 1/28/2012 with 8,000. Could be because both teams have pretty much sucked since 2012, too, so we'll see.
You can only get excited about bitch slapping a stray dog after about the 20th time.

It has to be because JMU doesn't give much of a crap about basketball (although now with a new coach and brand new arena, that seems to have changed), and with Mason being irrelevant for 10 years theres no reason for much luster.

That said, I hope the games continue and if either program is halfway decent, I'm sure there will be a good turnout one way or another. I remember the last one I went to where Rowe and Paulsen went at it was a fun one.

The idea that us playing St Bona doesn't automatically result in a crippling loss has me excited. Thinking about beating them twice is even more exciting.

I feel like Schmidt didn't even have to game plan against us they had our number so hard.

The game at Bonaventure looked like Mason was essentially a glorified practice for them. I was just hoping that they got a check for the buy game.

The last couple of times we played them (before the pandemic year) we were up huge and he had to adjust. So I’m not quite sure that’s true.

We went up huge against a lot of teams that never turned into Ws. I think Paulsen only beat Bona once, maybe twice...

I think the last time we beat them is when Lofton, et al. were freshman. Same with Richmond.

I don’t remember blowing a lot of 19-20 point leads though.

Love the talk here about Bonaventure, because yeah... those games have been flat out unwatchable for me. But with the guys we have coming in, paired with a new game plan, I am going to have those games circled as "must watch."

Yes, it'll be interesting to have guys with the length of Mbaye and Jones possibly playing at the 4, and guys like Gaines and Schwartz playing on the perimeter. Should change the whole complexion of the game.

My AJ Wilson love is well documented at this point, but I’d love nothing more than to go bury the gamecocks by 20 at this tourney.
You said bury the cocks.

For anyone who hasn’t been, Asheville is a fantastic town, and this tournament is well worth the road trip. Great breweries, restaurants, scenery, and great breweries..

I second this. I attended the SoCon tournament in Asheville three years ago. It was a wonderful four days of basketball, food, and beer. Better than the A10 tournament in Brooklyn.

I will definitely be going to this.

I want Mason to play in the Diamond Head Classic so bad. I would even pay the $100 to fly to Maui to see them in the Maui Invitational, if I had to.
