Welcome Mouhamed Lamine Mbaye

Watched a few Mbaye games with Colorado Prep today, and read quite a few articles on his recruitment over the last 2 years.

This is part recency bias, part whiskey, but my bold prediction is that Mbaye either starts at the 4 day one, or starts there the majority of the year.
Does the team have the luxury of starting him and Oduro at the same time? Does that only leave Henry to sub in ?

At the 5? You've also got Jones, if he can give some minutes as needed at the 5. Plenty of options to cover the 4 in the rotation if you need to push Mbaye up to the 5 too.

Just seems like some really skinny bodies, i know they will play mostly 4 guards/wings and then a big but still. I don't see Gaines or Jones playing much up front

The weight room this summer will be extremely important to everyone, most of all Henry, Gadsden, and Jones. I would put Gaines in this category, but he's been in a college level weights program for 3 years, so I don't know how much more good weight he could put on.

This roster is very versatile defensively. While Mbaye looks to be the only one on the roster that has the true size and perceived skillset of a "4", Blake Jones is a tall wildcard, Gaines will fight his a** off against whoever you put in front of him, Henry is probably more of a "5" but he would give Oduro a rim protector, and I know this sounds crazy, but TJ Gadsden looks bigger and taller in every picture I see of him.

Came here just to say this last point. I would have argued until I was blue in the face last season that Gadsden is a 3 and we shouldn't be playing him out of position, but from the pictures I've seen dude does not look his age, he is solid. Could see him playing an undersized 4.

Realistically none of this will come to play, if we truly are going to get to a 8.5 man rotation there are going to be some odd men out. It **probably** means we'll have 4 guys eating minutes for two positions (4/5), and another 4-5 guys depending on hot hand and fouls getting minutes at three positions (1-3).

I always thought Gadsden might project to be a stretch 4 in college, for some reason.

Mbaye is listed at 6'9 215...which isn't exactly "skinny." Mike Moe was listed at 6'9 205 when he came in as a freshman.

Glad we finally signed him but I'm worried about how many ESPN+ scrub announcers are going to pronounce his name "Maybe." All of them?

I have been impressed with the physical statue of Gadsden that I've seen in recent pics, dude looks real solid. Admittedly I have no idea if the kid can play, but he definitely looks the part of the d1 player.

Don't wan to read too much into a highlight reel but Mbaye looks to be very athletic w/range all the way to the arc. The only red flag so far is I didn't see a mid-range game. Everything is either a dunk or a 3-Pt shot.

Also seeing some similarities in skill sets between him and Jones w/MLM looking like the more natural shot-blocker and BJ the more developed passer of the two. Not to jizz my shorts over height like some of ya'll but after a season of development, could we possible see some SF/PF/C combo on the floor together of
6'8" Mbaye
6'9" Oduro
6'10" Jones

If Mbaye and Jones can consistently knock down open 3's then the mismatch opportunities in the high post & under the basket becomes huge.

I would also note --- at least on film --- they are good with speed and foot movement for their size which would make them hard to guard. We could have some good in and out action in the paint.
