Thanks DJ3/Herndon praying these guys suck so they can say there were "right"

This kid would run circles around Daddy who he's basically replacing. I think it's safe to say that's an upgrade
Chill your beef with me. I didn’t even post that. I’ve said nothing to the effect even.

man, I'm not sure who I'm more excited about "Ticket" or Cooper. both are gonna bring incredible size on the wing, and each have 2 years remaining.

at first glance on video, "Ticket" looks as smooth as Erik Herring looked. Devon Cooper looks like a mini Folarin Campbell/Darren Tarver type player.

GIVING DAY 2023
This is from the SEC tournament this year. Gaines was put into the game for the first time with 30-seconds to go in a must stop situation. UT knew that Bama was going to run an action to get Herb Jones (SEC POY) isolated, and they wanted Gaines to be the one guarding him. Not SEC DPOY/All-American Yves Pons... a cold, first-time-in-the-game Davonte Gaines.

Yes, he misses his free throws, but I don't care about that. This kid absolutely did his job against the best Alabama had to offer.

yeah, When is said "I hope he produces" that's me hoping he sucks. I hope he scores 20 a night and wins DPOY in the A10. There's a difference between "having reasonable expectations" and "hoping somebody sucks". Do better, dude.

With your horrible take on DP you would just think you’d be excited about anybody committing to Mason. Being mediocre was awesome remember?

I AM!

My perspective then is the same as it is now; lets all grow up a little bit, and temper our expectations, because acting like a bunch of children and acting like everything is either the greatest thing in the universe or the worst possible outcome is not productive.

Or, maybe I need to follow my own advice, and understand that much of this board is made up of 25 year olds, and their brains aren't fully developed yet, and they're simply incapable of that kind of perspective.

In which case, I guess people can overreact in either direction as much as they want. I'll just offer a heads up that it's not a happy, healthy, or successful way to go through life.

I just happened to be at the right place at the right time. Never thought in my wildest dreams my Tennessee-world and my George Mason-world would collide, but here we are. Happy to be able to provide some insight. Couldn't be more excited.

Oddly enough I almost went to UT Knoxville on a music scholarship. I probably should have gone, actually, but Mason felt better to me for some reason.

Funny enough the shirt I got at Mason orientation was like "Right place Right choice Mason" and the first sentence reminded me of that.

Not sure why, but anyway, yes very much appreciate your insight from English to Gaines!

I’ll take this as an insult.....I guess, because I’m on the MOON right now. You can play the stupid “let’s temper expectations” game but I’m going to hang onto every move, every piece of information and act accordingly. At this point the roller coaster started off with one of those 60 mph bursts. Jokers Jinx at Six Flags anyone?

I prefer the now defunct Volcano at King's Dominion because it did that twice (once at the start and a second time shooting you up out of the top of the "mountain" -- best rollercoaster there).

if you actually live like that you might be the most boring person to have ever been born. I would rather be 28 and realize when something sucks and not being content about it like you and then realize that something is hitting a different feeling and get excited than to be 60 and just feel bleh my entire life. This is not an insult to you based off age but you brought that up so I will retort accordingly. I will drink beers with OG @Patriotsince81 at Brion's and the Gold room rooting for a team that actually gets me excited for once as you crochet each night with your wife while watching Roseanne.

FIFY.

Looking at just his stats, I can see why @Herndon would raise that question. But like @Patriot8 I've watched a lot of UT BBall and was hoping for this as soon CKE was hired.

Gaines minutes were pretty scarce this season, which is almost certainly the reason he's transferring, but was fighting for playing time behind two likely lottery picks in this year's NBA draft, a third 5-star recruit, and an SEC defensive player of the year who'll also go in the NBA draft.

As a true freshman, he was averaging just over 10 min. per game in the SEC. He was also the guy that Barnes put in to cover Herb Jones, the SEC POY, down a point with 43 seconds left on the clock. And he stopped him. Not only shut him down underneath the basket after Jones already had 20 points on the day, but forced the turnover and a chance to go up.

(now that down side of that story is Gaines missed both FT's, but that's a part of his game he can work on)

As for siced-for-size, we all know his schtick by now.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Do you, my man.

Just know that if in 3 years if we've shown improvement, but have not reached some arbitrary level of expectations that you have decided is right, but is not matched by the underlying program fundamentals, and you're all salty about it, the issue is with you, and not English, or Gaines, or whoever else.

To be clear, I hope things go exactly as you do. I hope we kick everybody's a**. I'm just not going to get bent out of shape about it if we don't.

If we’re going to keep doing this it would help if we knew what “program fundamentals” we are discussing. And since we are in a conference with private schools that don’t have to disclose what they pay their coaches and so on so forth, I don’t think we’re ever going to have a substantive understanding of where Mason “should” fall in the A-10 pecking order. It’s mostly based on outdated assumptions of how our program was operated prior to the arrival of Dr Washington.

Of course trying to temper fans’ excitement after 10 years in the wilderness is a fool’s errand but you do you...
