Loyalty is a tough thing to define. Even tougher is the line between being loyal and just being irrational. I guess the thing that bothers me the most is the thought that the leadership (see TOC) would put his ego above the well being of the program. Do I know this is the case? No, I don't, but I think it's the real reason a lot of people are threatening with certain actions.

It's clearly not the losing. It's the notion that the program is a sinking ship, but that the captain would rather be proven to be wrong than actually save the ship. I also see both sides of the argument, but I do not see the side that questions anyone's loyalty. You're on a freakin message board for a mid-major team that hasn't won a conference game this year. You're clearly not a bandwagon fan. What makes people more bitter and tend to threaten more is the fact that because we're not a high profile program, media scrutiny is basically none. There are no outside forces pushing change so people feel as though the only way to effectuate change is through more personal means.

As for Hewitt, that's another story. Not having the team ready last night after the strong showing in St Louis is a head scratcher. Major changes need to occur this off-season.

A week ago you were boldly stating it was solely the players that were the problem. Not the coaches fault a player missed a shot, right? Now suddenly it's on Hewitt huh? Welcome to the party, you're 3 years late.

Simply not true. I have said all along that it's the combination of the coach and the players. In fact, back in early January I said:

"Too many want to blame Hewitt for eveything. I would put the blame on him at about 30/40%."

So, you must be thinking of someone else. Our players are far from perfect, our coaching staff is far from perfect. There is plenty of blame for everyone. Some games I put more on the players, others are more on the staff. I have never said it was solely the players.

TOC needs to go; Hewitt needs to go.

We are becoming UNC-W.

/thread.
Maybe but I firmly believe that Buzz Peterson is the worst coach in America. Is Hewitt the second worst? Not sure. Is he the worst in the A-10? Without a doubt

Here's an interesting nugget:

Over the past 12 seasons, Mason was 13-5 in non conference games against A10 teams. Of course, since starting conference play in the A10, we are 0-8.
If only I could point to what has changed.

Rockster, Mason is not going to suspend its basketball program, no matter how much it sucks.

Well I hope your right, but the program is spiraling out of control. Do you honestly see the team doing any better next year? I doubt it, maybe another 20 losses. so what will the state of the program be at that time? They will be lucky if they draw 2000 per game. Now it becomes a financial issue big time. So while I don't want any interruption in GMU basketball it appears to be a black hole for Mason.

And no, no adjustments because you DECIDED your life could still exist living outside of the shadow of the PC.

If you look at Mason's history, we are stuck with Hewitt for at least one more year, which would be his fourth season. Ernie Nestor was fired in 1993 after five seasons and a 68-81 record. This was under Jack Kvanc, who then hired his childhood friend, Paul Westhead. Paul Ball 1 was fired after four seasons and a 38 and 70 record. (Not sure if TOC as AD by then.) Each guy got worse every year but still managed to hang on for four seasons or more.

And for the record, I am a 20 year season ticket holder and Patriot Club member. I will continue to buy tickets and contribute despite my displeasure with the coach. But I have developed a lot of friends over the years and we can commiserate or talk about other things in the Gold Room.

But I have no problem with people voting with their wallets.
