Hell, I'd talk to Christian Pulisic's dad, Mark Pulisic. He's never been a head coach anywhere, but has experience at the Dortmund youth academy and at the USL level, plus he's an alum, he might move back to the area.
I reached out to a former GMU soccer star....he said this job has declined in value and never gets local commitments. Poor soccer facilities and lack of funding to dedicate to them have also driven the program value.
YepIt’s too bad Edwards wasn’t more aggressive getting the DC United deal done. Would have been a game changer.
But I also feel like this has as much to do with the rise in national prominence of Georgetown and UMBC over the last decade, so not only do you have powers like UMD and UVA sitting in your backyard, but national players Georgetown and UMBC too. Makes recruiting the DMV much harder.
Yep
Georgetown's former AD made a decision a few years ago to allow both their men's and women's soccer programs to offer the full allotment of scholarships the NCAA allows for soccer. They then increased the budgets for both teams. The results speak for themselves.
We do but most likely don’t offer the max amount of scholarships that the NCAA allows for Soccer programs.Wait, we dont offer schollys for soccer?

Still, I like the plan of separating the track stadium from the soccer stadium (I think I saw that somewhere in the athletics master plan). The atmosphere at Mason’s stadium is awful because you are so far away from the field and the bleachers aren’t high enough from the field to get a good view (not that people will necessarily go see the games anyway — speaking of, more weekend games less middle of the day weekday games).
