New feature on Hartwell....I'm liking this kid already.

On the court, Hartwell wants to be a lockdown defender. He discussed how that has been a difficult goal to attain, as he guards Otis Livingston II every day in practice.

"He is very good at using his body and changing direction," Hartwell discussed. "I have definitely learned a lot from him."

"I definitely play with a chip on my shoulder every day," Hartwell stated. "George Mason gave me this opportunity to play and I want to take advantage of that. I want to show everybody it doesn't matter about the height or the size of a player, but how much heart and athleticism that player has. I am going to come in here and do my best and try to help our team win."

Gotta love this Kid’s comments. Playing with and guarding against Livingston everyday in practice should be a huge help to the development of Hartwell this year. It’s sounds like he has the right attitude towards it and I can’t wait to see Jamal’s progression throughout the season and next 4 years.

I have a man crush on Jamal's ability to play D. Just saying. I wish he was bigger but the kid can move his feet and D it up. Also impressed with his pass first mentality offensively. Just wish he was bigger. I don't know how it will all end up in 4 years but the kid is fun to watch 5 games into his career. I just wish he was bigger..........................................

If the kid was bigger, he'd be playing for a PAC 12 team probably. Be glad he's here.

Hartwells energy on defense reminds me of Corey Edwards. I really like what he brought to the game tonight. The fact that Otis can now get more breathers will pay dividends.

Since we're not trying to fire our coach or run down our recruits today, I thought it might be a good time to point out that Jamal has 3 turnovers in 134 minutes as a freshman point guard who generally has the ball in his hands while on the court. That's insane.

He’s a smart player. I love that he focuses his energy in the defensive side of the ball when he’s in and isn’t trying to get shots up unnecessarily. He’s going to be a good one.

I love the tempo change he gives to our offense when he comes in. Although he's a very good shooter as Chank pointed out, his pass-first mentality keeps the ball rotating and forces defenses to be more on their toes. Can't wait to see what he can do next season when his minutes expand significantly.

Tweeted about this yesterday - love how he speeds up the team. We tend to get slow and stagnant at times but he's always going a hundred miles an hour.

Agree with all the praise - very impressive so far. Was just wondering this morning about next year and whether he will be the starting PG or if it will be Kier.

I would love to see Ian starting next year, but don't expect him to start over Kier or Greene.
