"Fairfax, Va.— The Hofstra Pride were relentless in the 40-5 defeat of the Patriots in a match today in the Recreation Athletic Complex.

Mason (7-7, 2-4) suffered its worst defeat of the season. The Pride (8-5, 4-0 EIWA) won its fifth straight dual.

The Pride opened the match with a fall at 157 pounds and never looked back. The match was tied at 2-2 in the second period before Hofstra's Holden Heller earned a fall at 4:15 against the Patriots' sophomore Kolby Ho. Holden's older brother Sage would get Hofstra's second fall at 174. With the match tied 2-2 in the first period, Heller earned the fall against Mason's Tony Lombardo (2:12).

Mason did have one bright spot. Redshirt-senior Alex Madrigal earned his NCAA-leading 11th technical fall with a 19-2 (6:13) win at 141 pounds against Vinny Vespa."

Mauller. I love it. That has to be one the better last names to have as wrestler.

He won the 2020 NCAA Most Technical Falls award in Division I, led all NCAA Division I wrestlers in tech falls by a landslide with 14.

Davis defeated Cleveland State's Nassar in the third-place match today earning the right to wrestle for a true second place. Kent State's Colin McCracken got off to a 4-0 start on Davis in the first period en route to taking the match, 9-4."

"George Mason wrestling team concluded the season with an 11-place finish in the 13-team conference.

"FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason redshirt freshman DJ McGee was selected as the Co-East Wrestler of the Week, announced by the Mid-American Conference.

It's the first time a Patriots wrestler has claimed the weekly award in the six years as members of the conference.
He shares the award this week with Lock Haven's Wyatt Henson.

The Stafford, Va., native is undefeated at 8-0 on the season. He broke into the national rankings last week for the first time in his career after beating #24 ranked Alejandro Herrera of Clarion.

This weekend, he went 2-0 with a major decision against MacIntosh of Morgan State and earned the biggest win of his collegiate career, a 4-2 decision over Michael Blockhus of Minnesota. Blockhus is a four-time NCAA Qualifier and was an NCAA All-American last year. Blockhus is currently ranked in the top eight in the country again this season. McGee scored the only takedown in the match against Blockhus. Between both of his matches, he scored 19 points and surrendered no offensive points (only escapes)."
