Has George been back to a game and been recognized at halftime somewhat recently? Can't remember if he showed up in the past like 7-8 years or if he has always been elusive and hasn't been back in a long time?

Today is Paul Westhead's 87th birthday.

Westhead's first head coaching job was at Cheltenham High School in suburban Philadelphia, where he was also an English teacher - https://glensidelocal.com/former-ch...ed-into-the-philadelphia-sports-hall-of-fame/

"According to local historian Chuck Langerman, Westhead’s Panthers won 66 games between 1964-1968, including a 26-1 1968 season which saw a 63-56 overtime loss to Laurel Highlands in the PIAA 4A title game."

"The Cardinals earned one of the 21 at-large bids into the 64 team field. It is the second time in program history the program has made the dance in at least three consecutive seasons.

The Cardinals, who have collected 20 wins all-time in the NCAA Tournament, will head to Medford, Mass. for the opening weekend. Catholic will take on the third-seed in the pod, Western Connecticut, on Friday, March 6 with the game time TBA. Joining Catholic and West Conn in the four team pod are the hosts Tufts and the four-seed, Penn State-Harrisburg."

"The Cardinals are coming off a run to the Elite Eight last postseason, collecting victories over Franklin & Marshall, Randolph-Macon and Roanoke, before falling to the eventual national champions in Trinity (Conn.). Catholic has never faced any of three teams in the pod in the NCAA Tournament and it will be the Cardinals first ever matchup against the Wolves."

Catholic is coached by former GMU assistant Aaron Kelly.

Men's Basketball 3/3/2026 10:33:00 AM

"BOSTON - As American University men's basketball prepares for its Patriot League Tournament run, head coach Duane Simpkins has been announced as a finalist for the Skip Prosser Man of the Year Award by CollegeInsider.com for a second straight year.

The award, named in memory of longtime head coach Skip Prosser, recognizes coaches who exemplify success on the court while demonstrating outstanding character and integrity off of it. Last season, Simpkins was named as a finalist for both the Skip Prosser Award and the Ben Jobe Award, honoring the top minority coach in Division I basketball.

A 10-member voting committee, composed of current and former head coaches along with senior staff from CollegeInsider.com, will determine the recipient. The winner will be announced in Indianapolis during the 2026 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship.

In his third season at American, Simpkins has the Eagles in position to make an underdog run at defending their Patriot League Championship from 2025. The Eagles went 9-9 in conference play to earn a first-round bye, and will start their run at Boston University on Thursday, March 5 as the No. 5 seed against a No. 4. With a young squad and three scholarship players out this season due to injury, AU nonetheless battled to a number of impressive wins and was the only team to defeat regular season champion Navy.

Last year, Simpkins led the Eagles to a historic season, winning the 2024-25 Patriot League Championship and earning the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2014. American finished 22-13 overall and 13-5 in the Patriot League, matching the program's all-time record for league wins in a season."
