3.2 ppg, 1.5 reb, no threat from 3, 16 - 46 (44.4%) from the free throw line. Wasn't an elite defender or necessarily a "glue guy." I appreciate the loyalty but...........

With the talent incoming, I will be shocked if he is anything more than a “break in case of emergency” guy next season. Pretty surprised he didn’t try to portal again and find a level where he can make a legit impact though.

Maybe a year under Skinn or an off season and he puts in the work! Never know! I trust Tony
I think there’s something to this logic. Sometimes a new system is overwhelming and a player has to go through the motions just to get through each day. Things slow down in the off season, they start to understand things and come into camp and the mental challenge is no longer slowing them down.

There’s a reason players typically have a break out season in their sophomore year.

Remember, he was recruited as the 10th or 11th player off the bench. He was pressed into the starting rotation because O'Connor, Hill and Troutman were all injured at the beginning of the season. His first four games as a started...he shot 63.6 percent (14-22) from the field. As players came back, his scoring role was reduced even more and didn't get as many shot attempts...he scored 17 points against cornell.

He went through stretched where he only averagws 1 shot per game...

He knows the system now... At minimum he is a glue guy off the bench. He would not have stayed if the coaching staff wasnt going to give him a opportunity for a larger role.. they would have told him to transfer down to a lower conference.

Malik is a great kid with a great attitude and work ethic. Any player with remaining eligibility that has those qualities and wants to be here is an automatic take for me. Plus he has the athletic ability to exceed at this level - just a question if he can ever put it all together and become a significant contributor, or remain a depth piece.

Low risk potentially high reward to have a guy like that for year 2 in Tony’s system. Either it works and he excels, or he can eat 6-8 minutes a game, give guys a breather, and give us 5 good fouls.
