Feels like someone who didn’t play in Friday’s game isn’t fitting into the culture. Maybe a suspension or internal issue?

He was referencing being without the three injured guys — hence the hashtag “no excuses”

Hmm. Does sound a bit "off."
"Competed" being the key word. He could have just said "proud of all the guys."
Then again, it could be nothing. As fans, we do tend to pick at things.

It’s pretty obvious from the postgame press conference he wasn’t happy with the team’s defense but also said he was proud of them for finding a way to win even if the defense wasn’t there.

He also isn’t going to let it slide and you better believe he’s going to be talking about rotations, closing out, and keeping your man in front of you (he also explicitly made this a point of emphasis for late clock situations).

If you have one of the best offenses/tempo, and you have one of the best defenses, the final score will probably show which team had control of the game. And getting both teams to nearly a hundred each, the defense team didn't take control... Nothing felt broken so I am optimistic but I can see how a coach would expect better.

And usually it is the defensive team who is able to control the tempo.
Good pitching (defense) beats good hitting (offense).
Tony cannot be pleased.

Someone recently posted an interview with Skinn and said that, due to the new players, he expects the team to improve offensively but take a slight step back defensively — paraphrasing.

Didn't like the D against Winthrop but the team got the job done. Tony will use that tape to show the defensive issues: defending the 3 and more importantly closing out on defense. Too many times the D overplayed and left a man open. Coach will get that fixed and with 3 guys coming back the competition will be fierce for p!aying time.
