I added the season finale at vcu to my calendar in case both teams are ranked/close to it at the end of the year.

Unfortunately, that vcu game may be the first quality opponent we play since we don't have a top quality OOC opponent (maybe Maryland will end up as one) and we don't play SLU or URI due to the unbalanced schedule. Would be really nice to play all 3.

"FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's soccer team remained unbeaten with a 1-0 victory over UNC Wilmington on Thursday [sic Tuesday] night at UNCW Soccer Stadium in Wilmington, N.C.

The Patriots have won their first five matches of the season for the first time since the 2014 campaign. It's just the seventh time in program history that the Patriots have started a season with at least five straight victories (1981, 1982, 1985, 1991, 2012, 2014, 2024).

George Mason (5-0-0) took the lead over UNCW (1-1-3) in the 25th minute of play.

Graduate student forward Marek Gonda scored into the lower left corner to put the Patriots in front, 1-0. Graduate student defender Luis Maestre and sophomore midfielder Javier Montava each notched an assist.

The Patriots have scored the first goal in all five matches.

George Mason senior goalkeeper Jaume Salvado improved to 5-0-0 with his third clean sheet of the season.

HOW THEY SCORED

25' | Gonda scored his first goal in a Patriots uniform into the lower left corner.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

The Patriots outshot the Seahawks, 13-5, including a 10-0 advantage in shots on goal. George Mason and UNCW finished with three corner kicks in the match.

Gonda (79 minutes) led all players with three shots on goal and Maestre finished with two shots on goal.

Graduate student defender Jordi Navio Sanchez (80 minutes), graduate student midfielder Henry Wachsman (75 minutes), senior defender Javi Sanchez, sophomore midfielder Quentin Clain, and freshman forward Martim Sereno (45 minutes) each recorded one shot on frame.

Graduate student defender Leo Lemoine, sophomore midfielder James Eliuda, Javi Sanchez, Clain, Montava and Maestre each played 90 minutes in the match.

NEXT FOR MASON

The Patriots travel to face Old Dominion on Sunday, Sept. 15 with the opening kick scheduled for 6 p.m. at ODU Soccer Stadium in Norfolk, Va."

I don’t understand how it’s possible for Fordham to go from unranked to 18th after LOSING 3-1 on 9/9…

I guess the Santa Clara win was that good (even though they aren’t even in the “receiving votes” category and are 1-2 on the season).

Who knows.

Top Drawer Soccer has Duquesne at #22 (4-0-1), so that makes a total of 5 teams (4 currently) that have received some sort of votes in top 25 rankings. Hopefully the Men's soccer team will give us a fun non-basketball season to follow and root for an NCAAT appearance.

Here is a good site for tracking the quality of our wins/upcoming opponents. According to them we have an rpi of 13!
