GIVING DAY 2023
Aaaaannndddd we have a DJ inserting himself into the game trying to make it about him and what he can do. It only took 3 games.

The sound effect was AWFUL. Particularly the time the ball hadn't even gone through the net and he played it. Please just play music for the students or when Doc Nix tells you to. Trying to 'add' to the game experience things which don't belong isn't addition, it's subtraction.
I thought it was a cool idea. The DJ's timing will get better with practice.

Is there anything that happens on campus during game day? Sorry if this has been covered before but do the cheerleaders or pep squad roll through the Johnson Center any hyping up the game or anything like that?

From the Women's game thread vs Georgetown:

A couple of student activity organizations sponsored a 4-5 suggestions mentioned on the boards:
Grad student activity giving out pizza and soft drinks to maybe a dozen people in space where the green room normally occupies; several raffles--free campus parking for the semester, tix to Caps game, etc. with winners announced well into the second half.

That said, I'd guess no more than 100 students were in the student section. We'll see if that builds crowds--free stuff, food, and an exciting OT win over a "name" program--can't get much better than that if you got past the first 3 quarters!

Not sure if you've made it to a game this season, but ALL tables inside have reserved placards on them. And they are frequently empty. This is a terrible change.
I walked the entire room twice on Tuesday. A few reserved tables were unoccupied early, but they were all in use when I made a second pass around 6:30.

And I only saw placards on less than half of the tables, although it's possible the others were covered up or removed once folks arrived.

What about creating two more areas, similar to the gold and green rooms. A kids room, where you can drop off the youngin’s in an area full of snacks and games, and a pre-game area for current students. EBA has the real estate for it. Use it.

I agree. The griping is already starting in the gold room. Saw one almost altercation when a non-reserved kid sat at a reserved table. This is a horrible idea for a small amount of revenue. Also, seems patently unfair that they really low-marketed this, and then just as folks were hearing about it, they announce every reserved table is reserved for the year. We always get to the game early so we can get a table that three familes share, now we are are rewarding the rich and connected folks instead of the folks that show up early and wait in line. Hate it.

GIVING DAY 2023
GMU attendance problems pale in comparison to Georgetown

at least 1/3 of the Athletic Budget goes to Men's BBall and a huge chunk of that goes towards the rental of Cap One

they seem to have turned the corner on the Ewing debacle - but at a large cost as Ewing would not take a buyout and remains on the payroll at full salary

Their OOC schedule is usually among the weakest in D1, usually only playing 1 sub 100 KenPom team at home (Clemson this season) and this season 2 away (UMD & UNC). A large part of the OOC schedule consisted of 300+ KenPom team which none but the diehard fans will support. Cooley has talked about strengthening the OOC schedule.

The Cap One contract allows only a few games (2?) to be played on campus at McDonough, forcing bad games with 2k-3k attendance into the 20,000 seat Cap One arena. A bad visual look even with the 300 level closed off.

As an outsider I believe there were 2 fatal mistakes made by Georgetown.
1) at the beginning of JTII coaching career there was an opportunity to rebuild McDonough Gym into a sunken 6000 - 8000 seat arena. That would have solved multiple capacity problems for both the University and BBall program. Instead, they chose to go to US Air Arena way out in PG County. Now the Georgetown neighborhood will fight anything that brings increased traffic to the area - including a Metro stop.
2) About 5 years, the Marriot Roslyn went bankrupt and was sold. Again, Georgetown could have purchased the land and built a sunken arena a long walk from campus - but 2-3 blocks from a Metro station. I believe with Ewing as coach there was no way to get the large outside donations needed to get this deal done.

Students do not get free admission but instead must purchase tix. Last season Coach Cooley made the student tix free if the students attended the first 4 home games. No such offer for this season. But the team is in the top 50 and climbing.

NIL has changed the game. Donors used to get a summer BBQ dinner with the team, a breakfast practice with the team, seat upgrades, etc., etc. All of that now starts at the $10k donation level.
NIL has also driven up ticket prices, and i have had partial season tix since 2000 and i plan on this being my last season as i see no value in the pricing of lower level seats - my currents seats will be at least $129/game next season, so i will watch the desirable games from my couch.

If Clemson, UMD, UNC, and Dayton are weak, then what is Mason's schedule, cause I'm going to need a word other is weaker than "weak". It's a name that still gets names to play them. Either teams are scared of Mason or think little of Mason to put them on the schedule, yet not Georgetown.

home schedule
not away, not MTE - how many Georgetown fans are paying travel expenses to see those games?
