Game 5: College of Charleston, in Puerto Rico, Sunday Nov 23rd, 11:30 AM, ESPN3.com (Watch ESPN)

Generally plays are run for guards in end of game situations.

A big popping open after they set a screen for a short jumper is usually some sort of secondary option.

If you have an Olajuwon you just clear outand feed the post ASAP.

I dont know WTF our logic was at the end of Charleston. I try to get some sort of clue from the faces of the assistants but they are usually just chewing on pens and drooling on themselves when I look.

F — Paul Hewitt, George Mason

Rather than dissect everything that went wrong for George Mason during a lost weekend in Puerto Rico, why not just merely address the Patriots' final play in Sunday night's 61-60 loss to College of Charleston? Facing a one-point deficit with 5.9 seconds remaining, George Mason inbounded the ball too deep into the backcourt to have time to get a good look. Then Shevon Thompson set a sloppy screen for guard Marquise Moore, who panicked and passed to senior role player Vaughn Gray for a contested 3-pointer that not surprisingly did not go in.
It's always nice to be included in the national spotlight for losing miserably with the Miami Hurricanes, coached by Laranaga, that won all their games to win the Charleston Classic.

Aside from the coaching disaster that is PH, we really don't have the guards to compete at this level. Perhaps Lockett and Jackson might some day be really good players for us, but right now the back court just isn't anywhere good enough to compete in the A10. Once again another roster "management" issue for PH. I just don't understand the roster construction on this team?? Watching vcu/Nova and the rams have about 4 guards I'd probably take over any guard on our roster.

I don't necessarily disagree, but I think even with his one-dimensional game Holloway would be far more effective in an offense that made any sense.

Like vcu's actually...with his quick release? Come on. He would probably come off the bench for vcu and still average 16 points a game.

He wouldn't play at vcu. He plays no defense and thus is a horrible fit for HAVOC. Plus I doubt Shaka would tolerate his family yelling at him on the bench while a teammate shot free throws.

With as much as vcu relies on the 3, I think Holloway could fill a role similar to what Troy Daniels did -- stand behind the arc and launch jumpers.

And Holloway's matador defense would've fit in perfectly with the rest of vcu's players tonight. I saw a bunch of guys not playing much defense as Nova was kicking their asses in the second half.
