Sadly, they aren’t much better. Both get pushed around defensively and provide zero offense. Kanga will be really good, but he’s way overmatched as a freshman. All three of our bigs (mostly Riley) were abused by Hunger, and our guards were a turnstile defensively.

Teams have figured out that the key to defending us is to swarm Mincy and double Allenspach and hope Fatt and Long don’t beat them. Nobody else is a consistent factor on offense. The only upside to hitting rock bottom is we know Tony will be back next year.
They are both much more athletic than Allenspach. The last drive I watched where GW drove the lane to allenspach’s left he actually looked right…WHAT? It’s as though he was looking to avoid physical contact. He needs to go.

I doubt Allenspach has been able to heal either. I mean separated ribs and be missed one game?

I think he lost confidence in them defending at a high level and plays much more conservatively now. It shows. But even playing conservatively you can stay in front of your man, hold your position, box out and rebound. This team won’t even do the most fundamental things.
That is completely on Skinn. The difference between Skinn vs the SLU coach, Phil Martell Jr and Ryan Odom is they rely on their benches and let them develop, play through their mistakes, become confident in their system.

Skinn on the other hand yanks guys at the first mistake. They are looking over their shoulders when they make a mistake.

Booker should have been getting minutes all along and become part of the.rotation and provide depth.

Complete fall from grace this season. An Ilia Malinin type choke job.

Remaining games: See us winning the St. Bonny game at home and that's it out of the remaining schedule.

Looking at finishing 10-8 in conference if this holds.

I’m all for athleticism, but the reality is Kanga and Ellington combined for zero points and 4 rebounds in 18 total minutes — and both were terrible defensively. Kanga at this stage in his young career could have worse hands than Riley, which is saying a lot.

The only way this team can win as constructed is if Mincy and Allenspach are healthy and play well on the same night. GW held them to 10 combined shots and 11 total points, and the result was a 19-point blowout. Both of them have to play better.

Kanga didn’t even see the floor in the second half because Tony was content with watching Allenspach turn the ball over and play no defense. I don’t know how he was terrible defensively when he couldn’t even get on the floor?

Kanga is the best defender we have in the post period.

Yeah Ellington had a poor game for sure but to say Kanga was terrible defensively makes zero sense.

The obvious statement: Mason needs to rededicate themselves to man-up, chest-to-chest defense. Either that or do what teams are doing to us and pack the paint.

Best thing to do on offense is to lower one's head, drive into the paint, and attack the basket with four players. Get physical, get fouled, get mad. Put our opponents backs flat on the hard wood. Toughness.

It's unfortunate that Riley and Mincy are playing hurt and there's no one who can up their game far enough to make up for the loss in player-power. Riley is so slow right now and he can barely jump. We see Mincy trying to take shots and trying to get to the rim, but his thumb won't let him. Gotta heal, but it may not happen fast enough to make a difference. Damn, we had a good thing going.

I would not want to fall into a losing streak. We're home vs. Dayton, who will likely beat us up badly, but I hope home court counts for something and we can eke our a win. Then, a week off to lick the wounds.

I didn't expect to win at GW this season, but SHEEEESH, what a SH!T SHOW in the second half tonight to follow up the sh!t show at Richmond.

Beer me.

Well, just got back from the game.

The Good - Went to Circa at Foggy Bottom instead of Tonic. Very nice place, good selection of food and great Happy Hour prices on drinks. They also have my beverage of choice. It will be my go to for every future GW game. Sat next to GW's Garrett Johnson's mom. Very nice lady. The traffic in and out was better than expected.

The Bad - Well, the game. Our weaknesses have been exposed and everyone is going to take advantage of them.

The Ugly - I hate to say it but we may not win again this year. I don't like to bash players but Riley is about as useful as a fifty pound bag of sand in the desert. We are limited across the board and appear to be a victim of our weak OOC schedule. I hope like heck I'm wrong........

We agree Kanga should have played more and is our best low-post defender, but my point was it didn’t matter tonight. Hunger and their guards exploited all three of our big men in the post and the paint. None of them played well on either end.

If I was coaching and looking to shake up the lineup, I’d start Kanga at the 5 and move Allenspach to the 4. It would give Riley more freedom offensively, and we could play zone to hide his obvious defensive inefficiencies. Can’t hurt trying at this point.

Nothing remotely encouraging after that game. GW is not a good team without Castro and has a bad coach but tonight the score told a different story and worse yet Mason was just that bad. Mincy can't play with his hand in its current state. He needs to be shut down. As far as Riley tonight he looked like he had never played organized basketball at any level in his life. At one point it got so bad It felt like he was throwing the game because yes it was that bad on defense. Had he just stood in the middle of the lane it would have been better.

Tony has his work cut out for him and team as a whole needs to nut up!
