This was the most booing I've heard at our games since the Westhead years. The funny thing about only have a few folks there is that you can hear all the comments being yelled at the court. Best line of the night: "Fordham uses Internet Explorer!"
That crowd was small, but it was the most disgruntled Mason crowd I've ever been around. People sitting near me who have normally been pretty positive in the past were grumbling about Hewitt needing to be fired. A typical post-game comment was a reaction to the band playing "Don't Stop Believin'" by responding with, "I stopped believin' a long time ago."

Does the band still play "Livin on a Prayer"?

I feel for the players, prob close to 6k attendance the prior game, they win then walk into the next game with 500 in attendance

They have a few times this season, but not last night. Actually, they did on Saturday now that I think about it.

Doc has been phasing it out over the years. I'm in favor of retiring it all together. Doesn't seem to do much but get the CCM kids riled up, and it was always an annoying one to play. Feels more ironic these days than anything.

Then again, I am still mad Jay Marsh made [the student-run band] stop playing "Regulators" but for some reason it's OK to play "California Love" now that Doc's in charge.

The weeknight, the bad weather and the bad opponent didn't help, but the fans have given up on this season. The body language, especially the non-students, demonstrated absolute apathy, and I can't believe the players didn't notice.

I would prefer that Doc Nix keep it in the rotation. Mason has so few traditions, and I think we should remind ourselves of the Final Four run, so we don't forget that excellence is possible.

He was walking around the Gold Room saying "Tom? GMUTom? TomGMU?" He left when someone came up to him and said something about 'dusting'...?

Well played, Dan. Last night would have been a perfect night for him to hide in the Gold Room since there were apparently 3,000 other non-dedicated people like me who stayed home.

Were you able to sweep the snow off your sidewalk? I mean the roads in Fairfax were absolutely COVERED in....

...well nothing.

But I get it. This team is tough to watch these days.

Couple observations:

  • Hewitt flipped out during a second half TO like I've never seen. Seemed to be cursing out guys not on the floor as well as those playing. Not sure what about, but clearly he's cracking.
  • I like Trey Porter, though he's regressed as the year has gone on, but he is NOT the answer on defense against teams who can shoot the 3. He's a rim protector, but is not quick enough to get out on shooters. Why so often this season we put him in for D against shooters is beyond me.
  • At about the 3 minute mark it seemed like Marko cracked. After another easy FU bucket, he got off the bench and started angrily flailing. Guy seems like a good teammate and one of the few who still cares. Why after a decent St. Joe's game he can't even sniff the floor is beyond me.
  • I honestly expected to see an announcement today that PH was relieved of his job. It can't get lower, may as well just rip off the bandaid and start the healing process.
Kreider, Marquise, Shevon, Jalen, Pat, Trey, Isiah still high-fived kids waiting for them coming off the floor. The rest were over it including Hewitt who was the first one off the floor.

Marko had a good game AT Richmond as well, and didn't play in the return game. That was odd to me.

My guess is that Marko is on pace to graduate early, then hit the road and play his graduate year some place else.

I know that most of the posters believe that the assistants are terrible, but I've been impressed that Kreider has been asserting himself lately. In the unlikely event that Hewitt is fired during the season, he's the one that I would like to finish the season as the interim head coach.

He had an animated discussion with Hewitt about something during a timeout on Saturday. That was nice to see.
