that same community was calling for him to be fired the year they went to the Final Four. their concerns were heard, our ours?

That's true and I think as a school and program we still have a lot to offer any coach. But I want a coach who wants to be here and is not going to use it as a stepping stone for something better. There is a reason that school down south still has their coach. I refuse to say anything positive about them but I have to admit they have a passionate and strong fan base from the students/alumni/community.

Interesting how you mention about how some coaches want to use schools as stepping stones for something better. I think that was Paul Hewitt's intention all along for choosing George Mason. He inherited a team that just went to the 2011 NCAA. He was probably hoping to make some noise at Mason and then sneak his way back into the ACC.

Hewtit has lost all respect in the ACC and in alot of coaching circles.

It doesn't matter if we go 2-28 and 500 people are in the stands for the final home game, coaches understand what Mason can offer and the advantages we have over most of our A-10 opponents (public vs private school). There would be a line out the Field House that looked like an American Idol try out if this job becomes open. This isn't a place where coaches look and say "well...maybe I could win there." To me, Mason is a job that a coach should say "how quick can I get it turned around".

Not trying to be disagreeable, but the strength of the fan base didn't mean diddly poo for keeping Shaka at vcu.

As it always did, the decision came down to money: a $1 million raise for himself, big bucks for his assistants, additional funding for charters/recruiting and BIG money for adding suites to the Siegel Center and a $25 million practice facility.

In short, the vcu admin is doing every single thing Shaka has asked.

If Merten had committed to our program in similar fashion after our Final Four, who knows where we'd be?

I know for certain that we wouldn't have sucky-a** Paul Hewitt as our head coach.

I think you're right, but what Masonfan3 is saying is also true. If you can still get people to turn out for a dogshi& product, it just makes the job that more attractive.

Just rubs me the wrong way when people run their mouths as much as he does with no accountability, and then he acts like he's fooling anybody by changing names.
Yes, because if there is more than one avatar disagreeing with some of your ridiculous views, it must be that they are are really the same person. You must be one of the most conceited people on the planet.

Ok for gumtom/raider to run his mouth non-stop (don't you have one of the highest post counts) but not ok for people to disagree with you. Wow, you fit in the modern day Washington perfectly.

Hugh/Quentin/wiig, I have no problem admitting I embraced the Hewitt hire. I also admit I dug in and debated people who were against the hire. I was wrong about Hewitt. Period. I've seen the light and am not happy with the direction of the program. It might have taken me time to come around, but I agree it's time for a new coach.

Anyway, I hate when this stuff gets personal. If the three of you are ever in Fairfax, beers are on me.

I don't doubt that there would be a lot of people interested in the job. I mean it is a job in the A10 but I don't know about the quality of those people standing in line. What I do know is we have lost some potentially good recruits due to our fan base or lack there of in the past 2 years. I am just as upset as the next guy and don't like Hewitt but I was responding to the question of "what can we do as fans". Showing up and supporting the program as we have been is the only thing we can do. Call for Hewitts firing, write BE emails telling him this is not acceptable, but if the fans stop showing up I think it will cause more harm than good. Coaches want to coach winning programs with a strong fan base and players want to play in front of a packed house. The next hire for this program is going to be important because that guy is going to have to convince Jenkins, Moore, Porter, Mayimba(maybe) to stay with the program. As bad as we are, I am excited about the future with those 4 leading our program.

Jenkins already burned a red shirt I don't believe he will go any where. Porter may also end up redshirting so that burns his year. Moore would be a tough loss for sure, Mayimba...haven't seen him, no idea.

There would be multiple quality head coaches and BCS assistants wanting this job.

Virginia Tech. At least the women's team won their opener and appear to be headed in the right direction under their new coach.
Its not so much the coach, but getting Georgetown transfer Taylor Brown. That girl is legit. 35 and 11 yesterday.

Just watched the post game presser....makes me want to punch a hole in the wall. All the talk was about how poorly the offense was, poor shot selection/terrible shooting, but not one mention of the shit poor defense!!! All PH ever says when a questions is asked about the defense is, well player X made some really big time shots. The answer I want to hear from that douche is something like well we were really outta position several times and our effort sucked on that end of the floor, tired of the excuse that some jerk in the other colored uni just made some really nice plays....Up urs Paul.

I know this is irrational, but I feel like at this point we could beat Princeton by 40 and I'd still want Hewitt fired.

He just very simply sucks at his job. Since everyone else on the planet (and my Twitter feed) can see it, I'm sure Cabrera and Edwards do, as well.

Did he say "We gotta get better" at all? Also, I agree, one "our play is inexcusable" would at least sound appealing.

what's with Hewitt waving his arm as if they need to know which direction to run. The guy is patethic. how about setting picks for Holloway. How about boxing out, back side screens, fast breaks, crashing the boards. U know the stuff they teach in high school. We may very well have some
Decent athletes, but without a teacher we are going nowhere.

Bit of bright news. The guys who danced and threw shirts to the crowd was hilarious. The students were going crazy. He and Doc Nix were the highlights of the evening.

Oh, and we looked awesome in pregame warm ups!

...actually there was one bit of unheraleded good news about the game, seriously, we only had 5 turnovers. That's the lowest amount of turnovers in a Hewitt coached game that I've seen at Mason. That's actually really good. Pablo, can you back me up with stats on that? Out of all the games Hewitt has coached at GMU was this, ironically, the game with the least turnovers?

Hard to turn it over when you arent passing it around and jacking up the first shot available.

GS,

Let's expand on this by saying that the Patriots attempted 27 3-pt. FG's and rarely passed the ball inside.
