Have you spoken to Brad Edwards regarding your extensive concerns? I met with him after he arrived and he was very open about what he was attempting to do and the issues going forward. I'm in for tix and a modest 4 figure annual gift because I loved the DP hire and BE's vision. He sure didn't need to meet with me. Also, why would anyone publish pictures of (I'm assuming) paid for and planned for facility needs w/o an institutional buy in? Finally, I have a group of college friends that constantly rant about what they won't do to financially improve programs they care deeply about and it makes no sense to me. They always lament that no one listens yet they rarely talk to the right people about their greatest concerns.
I made several requests to meet with him, was told a meeting would be scheduled, it never happened. Long story short, I have given up on Mason as a program I support financially because the same problems I saw under the former AD seem to still exist, almost 3 years into the BE era.

I don't believe you've given up or you wouldn't have written the critique in the first place. I emailed him directly and he responded quickly and he didn't need to sit down with me. He is extremely approachable. You like the coaching hire he made, but can't dial the right contact number? Who were you calling?

I still root for the program and watch as many games as possible, no doubt. So, definitely, I still care for the program. I have just decided to stop supporting the program financially. I am sure Brad is perfectly nice, I just haven't really had a chance to talk to him except for a 5 second introduction at a baseball picnic. I mentioned to several people high up in the AD and to people on patriot club board at for the AD that I had been planning to make a sizable donation, but had major concerns (provided the list of concerns) about whether the AD was going in the right direction, that I'd be glad to meet with Brad if he wanted to discuss my concerns. I was told at least 3 times it was going to be scheduled. It never happened.

This happened over a nearly 2 year period, starting when Dave Paulsen was first hired (yes, who I love as a coaching choice). There were many failed followups, many of which I have chronicled in other posts on here, the most egregious being not responding to my season ticket request last year. I gave up completely about 6 months ago. I no longer reach out to Mason.

Contrast that with my experience with the Wizards. We bought tickets to a game (better than Mason was offering me, by the way). A development specialist called us and emailed us within a day. Excellent follow up. Now the Wizards get my sports entertainment dollars.

Brian,
Why not make a pledge, and tell them if you can't do what you say I will revoke pledge.

It's a thought, but he shouldn't have to. Begging them to take his money, in essence, is insane. They know the history, and if they don't, they can find out. Brian has given a lot of money to that program - quite possibly the most of anyone on these boards - and has reached out more than once. Eff them if they don't want his dollars.

If I recall correctly, they published pictures of our last practice facility and it was never built...

That being said, BE did just say in the halftime interview that construction of phase 1 starts in the summer. Unfortunately, that is the lesser of the two phases. Hopefully the second phase becomes a reality.

Just like Larranaga was when Mason hired him, Dave is in that sweet spot for having a nice long run here.

Early to mid-50s means he'll never get mentioned as one of the "hot young coaches" like Shaka or Archie.

It also makes it more likely that he would want to stick around for a while and enjoy the fruits of his labor after rebuilding a truly gutted program, rather than take over a P5 bottom-feeder where you're almost guaranteed to lose.

Then throw in the allure of the A-10 -- obviously a HUGE step up in prestige from the CAA -- and an administration that recognizes the importance of a strong MBB program to the university.

Depending on how much he wins here, there's always the possibility of a career opportunity coming along that he simply can't refuse. He is a great coach and they don't grow on trees.

Other than money, though, there really aren't many good reasons for him to go job-hopping at this point in his life.

I am very happy with what I am seeing in season two of Dave. He took a raging dumpster fire and made a great garden out of it. We need to show him the love now - Pikapp stands ready with the rubdown lotion, hot towels, and incense to get things started.

The key to keeping Paulsen is to make sure Williams or any other school in the New England Small College Conference doesn't weigh on his mind for a return like we went thru with the Cuban, Providence and the ACC.....

Horrible! Horrible I tell you!

No donation. None at all! And people say my donations are yuge. They're the best donations written on the best checks with the best handwriting ever. Believe me they want my donations.

So far P8triotfan4life said Marquise wasn't that good and Paulsen was a bad hire.

P8triotfan4life, if you're here, I'm going to need to to post that Mason will never win the A-10, never make the NCAA tournament, never win an NCAA Championship, and that I will never win the lottery.

And something about Mason never getting a video scoreboard, and Otis never playing in the NBA. :cigar:
