YOUR CHAIR IS ON FIRE, SIR

"Travis Ford (Saint Louis)
  • Ford is in his eighth season at SLU and now five years removed from his lone NCAA Tournament appearance with the Billikens. The team won 21+ in each of the last two seasons but have not been a significant factor in the A10 for most of his tenure. Entering this season, Ford was 133-89 overall – only a slightly higher win percentage (.599) than he had in eight seasons at Oklahoma State (.583). UPDATE: The Billikens are at the bottom of the A10 at 3-11 (10-17 overall), Ford is verbally sparring with opposing fans and rumors fly every week that his firing is imminent. No chance he is coaching SLU next year."

WE’VE GOT OUR EYE ON YOU, COACH

"Dane Fischer (William & Mary)
  • William & Mary has never been to the NCAA Tournament, and in Fischer’s first year (2019-20) he had earned the 2-seed in the CAA Tournament and was poised to make a run at history. But the Tribe got upset in their opening round game and it’s been a downhill roll ever since. The team showed some growth last year, improving to 13 wins after just 5 the year before, but this year has been another regression to second-to-last in the league standings. Fischer signed a five-year deal when he was hired and we’re not sure if he has gotten any contract extensions since, so this could very well be the contract year for him. If that’s the case, it’s hard to see how he earns a new deal with what we’ve seen on the court thus far."

COACHES THAT ARE SAFE (FOR NOW)

  • "Billy Lange (Saint Joseph’s)
    • Lange was hired in 2019 after six seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers and tasked with taking over for long-time Saint Joseph’s head coach Phil Martelli, who led the Hawks for 24 years. Things have not gone great, as Lange is just 38-77 through his first four seasons and without a winning record. The Hawks were close to .500 last year (16-17), while AD Jill Bodensteiner said in March that she is “optimistic” about the future and hopes Lange is at St. Joe’s “for a long time.” Jon Rothstein reported in April that Lange had received a “multi-year” extension but details are not publicly available, nor has SJU announced anything, at the time of this writing. UPDATE: Maybe Bodenseteiner was on to something, as the Hawks have surpassed last year’s win total and are just barely hanging on to their spot in the top half of the A-10. Lange is still not knocking it out of the park though, that’s for sure."
