Asking because I honestly don’t know. How many assistants make almost half a million a year? Skinn is currently making 475k / year.

Seems like he has no problem getting top assistant coaching salary offers. I would think that would bode well as to what people around the country think of his ability/potential.
Comparing this to GMU coaching salaries, $475k is an astronomical amount. Do you know if that is base salary or salary plus bonuses plus boosters?

For comparison, here are some Virginia assistant coach salaries that are publicly available (note these are just base salaries, I imagine boosters/bonus aren't accounted for):

GMU:
Felton - $200,000
Simpkins - $173,000
Tomlinson - $150,000

UVA:
Jason Williard (Assoc. Head Coach) - $309,402
Orlando Vandross (Asst. Coach) - $275,625
Kyle Getter (Asst. Coach) - $175,000

Virginia Tech:
Mike Jones (Assoc. Head Coach) - Data not available
Christian Webster (Asst. Coach) - $194,391
Kevin Giltner (Asst. Coach) - $182,194

vcu:
Jamal Brunt (Assoc. Head Coach) - $199,500
J.D. Byers (Asst. Coach) - $171,150
Brent Scott (Asst. Coach) - $203,280

JMU:
Xavier Joyner (Asst. Coach) - $109,200
Jon Cremins (Asst. Coach) - $101,850
Matt Bucklin (Asst. Coach) - $108,000

ODU:
Chris Kovensky (Asst. Coach) - $97,335

I’m really hoping we hear something Today. Even if it’s a deal to make Skinn head coach is being finalized.

That being said it seems like most of the boards are all about Tony becoming head coach. What makes everyone so confident he’s going to be good? Does anyone have any insight on what his style of play would be? I’m also willing to take a gamble on him, and I know where he’s been an assistant at but other than that I know nothing about what his vision in running a team would look like.
My thoughts exactly.

I have no idea if Tony will be a good coach. But that is true of probably every candidate we would hire. We didn't know that English would be a good coach. We still don't know if he will successful as a HC.

Pretty sure $475,000 is Tony’s current base

1. He is widely considered one of the best recruiters in college basketball, as evidenced by both his salary and the rumor that Maryland is preparing to offer him a significant raise to stay there. Procuring talent is the most important thing and Tony is a rock star in that regard.

What are some good examples of recruits he has been involved with? Looks like he brought Jahari Long over from Seton Hall

Maryland has something that none of those other institutions have: Big Ten revenue share.

"At issue: The ACC will fall behind both the SEC and Big Ten in revenue by about $30 million per year when their respective new television contracts kick in (Big Ten in 2023, SEC in 2024)."

I say go after Mike Jones from UNC Greensboro. Been a head coach for a while. Has a good record.

Same.

Like, I get the fun of having a program legend as the coach, and if he gets hired and works out, great, but I don't get why we're SOOOO zeroed in on him.

Like, did NOBODY pay attention to what JUST happened at Georgetown to kick this whole thing off?

I'll root for Skinn if he's hired, but there are a LOT of fish in the sea, some of whom didn't play at Mason.

Ewing had exactly ZERO experience as a college coach when Georgetown hired him. Tony has many years of relevant college experience and is much younger and in tune with todays kids/players...Not to mention his local connections with schools and top AAU programs. Ewing and CTS are not comparable IMO.

Off the top of my head look at UNC, Syracuse and Duke, all with former players as either head coach or associate head coach. It goes a long way in program building to bring in someone who knows the culture, can build on it, and actually cares about the university.

The up side of Tony succeeding here is higher than the upside of a random outside hire succeeding here. Thinking Coach L involvement, HOF creation...etc.
