"WASHINGTON – 33 student athletes representing nine Atlantic 10 universities qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field First Round.
George Mason and vcu paced the conference with seven qualifying student-athletes each, while Rhode Island sent four student-athletes to regionals. La Salle racked up four qualifiers and Loyola Chicago tallied three selections. Duquesne, George Washington, and Saint Louis each qualified two student-athletes, as Davidson, Dayton and Richmond rounded out the list with one student-athlete each.
Alex DeRoussel, Davian Burke, Kellen La Roche, and Walter Bannerman will represent the George Mason’s men’s team at the NCAA East Regional, while Ella Semple, Abigail Weening, and Kennedy Drish earned spots for the women’s team. Bannerman and Drish will compete in the men’s and women’s pole vault events, respectively, as La Roche and Weening compete in their respective high jump events. Burke is slated for the 110-meter hurdles, DeRoussel for the 3,000-meter steeplechase, and Semple for the 5,000 meters."
" North Carolina, from the ACC, is headed to Omaha for the second time in the last three years and the 13th time overall. The Tar Heels scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth Sunday afternoon to beat USC 4-3 in Game 3 of the Chapel Hill Super Regional. "Just had to share... As some of you may have heard from my occasional updates, my cousin is Owen Hull. He formerly played his frosh and sophomore years at Mason before transferring to North Carolina for this season. I was sad to see him leave the Patriots, but given his talent - we all knew he had to go and try to make it at the next level. What an amazingly crazy season he's had. He's batting .390 with 81 RBIs (not to mention the walk-off double on Sunday to go to the CWS). The good part is that George Mason is mentioned multiple times every UNC game because the announcers can't help saying it every time he's up to bat! I've been lucky to attend all of the regional and super-regional games, but probably won't make it to Omaha, unfortunately. So - if you're watching the games this week - root for Owen!
