GIVING DAY 2023
Late on commenting on NIT game, since that forum was shut down by admin, I am posting my games season comments here. First the game, typical cold start , team tries to comeback too little too late. Bad TO s , terrible D you all know the story the last 10' or so games. I be been saying Kanga should have been our 5 starter since the OCC games but a few of you kept talking about Riley's offense and we need him etc etc. If you want no D or hustle then Riley is your man. I ll take Kanga every time . For next season , we must keep Kory and Kanga , O'Connor too, everyone else can go . We need a dog on this team someone who is willing to do the dirty work . We need a hustle guy and finally a lock down defender or as close to one as possible. I have faith Tony will get as many of these types of guys As he can with the limited amount of $$ that he has. Let s hope he can get back to team 59 on defense and we can get the guys he needs to have a competitive team.
"Must keep." It’s really more "try to keep."

One of the things I realized on way home last night was that we need some dogs like KD, Jalen, and Billups. That kind of attitude is contagious. Too many nice/deferential guys on this team.

Returning a core that we all seem to pretty much agree on will be huge to allow continuity and improvement. Will also be really helpful in portal shopping to have fewer needs and be able to be more selective.

Mason needs a much smaller more premium stadium. Premium suites for sponsors. Arenas don’t make money on general admission, they make money on corporate sponsors.
I’m no engineer but I’m wondering if we can do anything similar to what the robins center did it Richmond. Their arena seems a lot like ours, has 9k+ seats but then took out the corner seats for premium seats. While yes it’s further away from the court, it seems like at least an option.

Our admin in 2014 toured the robins center in interest of renovating the same way. Unfortunately nothing actually happened.

Mason doesn't even own EBA, they can't even keep tshirts in it.....

"Location and Ownership

EagleBank Arena is situated at 4500 Patriot Circle, Fairfax, Virginia 22030, on the Fairfax Campus of George Mason University.[1] The venue forms an integral part of the university's athletic and academic infrastructure, located approximately 20 miles west of downtown Washington, D.C., and accessible via Braddock Road (Route 620), just six miles west of the Capital Beltway.[5] This positioning enhances its role in serving both campus activities and regional events.

The arena has been fully owned by George Mason University since its opening in 1985, funded initially through a revenue bond issued by the Virginia General Assembly.[6] There have been no changes in this ownership structure, with the university's Board of Visitors providing oversight for major operational and developmental decisions.

Operational management of EagleBank Arena is currently provided by Monumental Sports & Entertainment,
which assumed responsibility in 2010 following a merger involving its predecessor entities.[1] Prior to this, the facility was operated by Washington Sports & Entertainment from its inception in 1985 through 2010, under the leadership of Abe Pollin.[7] This partnership model allows the university to focus on academic integration while leveraging professional expertise for event hosting, including commencements and other institutional gatherings."

"2025 Game-Day Upgrades

On October 13, 2025, George Mason Athletics announced a series of game-day enhancements for EagleBank Arena, aimed at elevating the fan experience during basketball games.[36] These upgrades were designed to foster stronger connections among fans, create a more energetic atmosphere, and improve overall hospitality, with implementation scheduled for the 2025–26 men's and women's basketball seasons.[36]

Key features include expansions to the Green & Gold Room, providing premium access to an outdoor patio, additional RSVP-based table seating, and an enhanced Coaches' Chalk Talk series for interactive engagement.[36] Entertainment options were bolstered with a new in-arena DJ booth positioned in the student section, in collaboration with local entertainers Doc Nix and the Green Machine spirit squad, to amplify crowd energy and noise levels.[36] Concessions underwent upgrades through partnerships with Chartwell Hospitality Group for elevated food and beverage service, alongside a three-year agreement with Wegmans to offer customizable menus during select games.[36]

Additional hospitality collaborations include discounts on tickets and premium experiences tied to memberships with INOVA Health System and Navy Federal Credit Union (NWFCU).[36] Ticketing innovations feature single-game tiered pricing, Value Ball Season Tickets priced at $125 (averaging about $6.25 per game), and flexible Mini Plan packages to encourage broader attendance.[36] While primarily targeted at basketball events, these enhancements apply across the arena's multi-use programming to support fan loyalty and higher engagement.[36"

I would like to see more late games on Saturday. Also think Mason should get a few conference Friday night games. I think they have earned that the last 3 years. All Friday games seem to go to vcu or Dayton. I guess Saturday games are controlled by USA Network which does not help.

Mason needs to give Monumental the boot then. Not being able to control beer prices or keep tshirts in your own building is embarrassing.

This. I’m busy saturdays. It’s hard to know what tv station to use if I can’t make it. This is something the league needs to fix.

I’ve been to globetrotters and kids shows but not a real concert. What is that experience like at EBA? Are the seats sold for concerts that would be impacted with premium seat changes?

Generally A10 Saturday games are on USA network. Sometimes the early nonconf games are just ESPN+ and local sports channels (like a MASN). The A10 Saturday games that are on USA network have the time dictated by USA network.

I haven't been to a concert in probably 10+ years at EBA, but the experience was always solid. Its usually condensed because of the stage setup (although there are exceptions) for the ones I have attended and you get around 7 or 8 thousand folks. Premium seat design would not impact the experience other than making it better.

Trust me, they (basketball) don't even have access to the arena if there is a non GMU event going on like a concert. Locker rooms etc.. It is an issue.

That is why the RAC was built and from what I understand they have 24/7 access to the practice court. The players do not need access to a nearly 10,000 seat arena that generates significant revenue for the school

I know the 1400+ attendance was listed, but it sure seemed more than that.
Maybe because section 102 was pretty full, at least the lower bowl. Must have been 3-1 Liberty fans, so it's not often that I feel like a visitor in EBA.
I know I've been to a few women's games where there were around 1400 that didn't feel anywhere near as crowded as the NIT game last night.
