Perhaps Hewitt should seek out someone in the math department to analyze this team like Coach L did back in 2002.

I actually like that idea a lot. If the stat Jim cited above about Hewitt never having a team in the top 100 for assists is accurate, it could be helpful to break that down as to why.

I don't think the why is in question. We have pages of threads on here discussing that. I would hope it would be a clue to him that something needs to be changed.

Ken Pom Assist % ratings say Ga Tech was never in the top 100 under Hewitt starting with the 02-03 season. But Mason was only in the top 100 ONE season under Coach L, strangely, after the Final Four. In 06-07 we had a 59.2% rate, good for 72nd in the country.

I don't know if that means anything or not. In my opinion the turnover margin + defensive rebound percentage is a better indicator. A turnover means no shot attempt. A defensive rebound means no extra shot attempt(s). With a positive turnover margin and good defensive rebounding, a team should get more shots at the basket than their opponent, which in theory should equal more points.

There's a lot more that goes into winning of course, but I don't see a huge connection between A% and winning.

It's pretty simple why his teams don't have many assists. PG dribbles down the court either A) turns it over or B) misses or makes a layup or jumper. I hate the nba style of play Hewitt is implementing. It's disgusting. I believe in getting everyone involved. You are going to need all your players to get into the rhythm of the game. Waiting for one guy to carry the load is stupid at this level. Post play is key, not the end all be all, but its key in getting the bigs touches. Maybe thats why ours have regressed in catching the ball and looking lost. Oh well here's to next year.

Pretty pathetic. And 2 of our guys contributing to this stat are Senior Guards who touch the ball more than anyone on the court usually.

Out of our starting 5.... who has the most turnovers on the year? I will say Sherrod.

Allen (40/27), Moore (14/12), and Edwards (16/15) are the only ones with more assists than turnovers. Naturally as each spends time playing point guard, they are the ones most likely to get assists.

It's sad to watch our players clueless about what to do against even token pressure and then watch the opposing team carve up our press like they are traffic cones.

With numbers like that it's clear the Hewitt "system" isn't working. Same crap as GT. It's year 3 after all, when all that experience was supposed to pay off. Way to do your research TOC.

Bryon Allen is the only Patriot currently ranked statistically in D-I:

FT%: 80th (85.7%)
Assists per game: 206th (3.7 apg)
Assist/turnover ratio: 246th (1.52)

Isn't time to start calling this Bryon's (not Sherrod's) team?

I've been saying that for some time. Wright is a great scorer when he wants to be, but Allen is the best all-around player on our team, no question.

This isn't anybody's team. If it was, we wouldn't look like shit winning and/or losing.
