Despite the fact that I used to loathe ODU, I'm glad Paulsen didn't block Porter from going there because IMHO it would've looked unnecessarily mean-spirited.
First, and most obviously, we're no longer in the same conference. Even if we continue to schedule each other for OOC home-and-homes, it's not gonna hurt us that much if we have to face him down the road.
Second, I'm pretty sure ODU was one of the schools Trey considered coming out of HS. If this allows him a mulligan on his original decision, good for him -- he's not the only one who fell for the Hewitt BS hook, line and stinker.
Finally, it will only benefit Mason if Paulsen has a rep on the recruiting trail as a guy who's not looking to put unreasonable demands on guys who decide to transfer.
Sometimes these situations don't work out for whatever reason. We don't need AAU coaches steering their players away from Mason for fear that our coach will act like a scorned girlfriend if they ever want to change schools.
